Why are they using 40 nanometer size? I don't get it. If they can make some chips at 32 nanometers then why can't AMD make all their chips at 32 nanometers?

Same with Intel. If they can make Ivy Bridge chips at 22 nanometers, then why can't they just use that technology to make all their Atom chips 22 nanometers also?

Why can't every computer have a 690 and a hexacore processor?
Why isn't every PSU at or above a bronze level?
Why doesn't AMD and Intel use the same socket?
