In addition to updating your graphic drivers, Steam's new "Update ATI Video Drivers" button also installs Catalyst Control Center and Communication Opt-in to the C:\Program Files directory without ever asking you if you want these things installed or where you want them installed.  In order to uninstall these things once they have been installed, you will have to go to the control panel and use the ATI Catalyst Install Manager to uninstall them. For those who don't use the default C:\Program Files directory or like crap software polluting their computers, simply downloading the necessary drivers and doing a custom install is better than using Steam's new button.

I have used it and it works great one click an thats it. cool.  its been a long time coming and steam just gets better.  thanks

I updated the drivers then then installed the latest directx then restarted vista 64 bit.  no issues with my TV Tunners either. Everything worked

Steam is great. I havent had a problme with it yet. This idea could be very good but they should also support nvidia drivers to make it easier for owners of nvidia cards as well.

Cool, but couldnt they have just added automatic updates to their current Catalyst Control Center client?

I thought that they had at one point. For some reason I remember being able to do an auto-update with the beta Vista drivers during the Vista beta...

Now if only steam could do that for my sound card too...but that's pretty sweet. I'm excited.

I hate steam and it sucks that i am forced to use it now that i bought a game digitally. Their customer support is awful. For some reason everytime the steam client updates (usually once a month) the update freezes at some certain % and wont continue.  Steam takes 48 hours at best to respond to any support questions, and those answers arent usually relevant to the problem. Now they are adding driver downloads... good luck getting any help if your system craps out.

Way to be a troll. They just updated all of their servers sure it was bad for like a week but now everything is fucking amazingly smooth haven't had an issue with them and in fact I never had an issue with them before either. Never had a problem with steam, valve is perfect.

When you think of how much value Valve has added to Steam since its inception it boggles the mind. Personally I always get my driver update reminders from Maximum PC, but I have to give credit to Valve and AMD for finding a creative way to deliver more to their customers.

Please tell me there will be a check box for me to ignore driver updates.  I'd rather run a driver that is old, but stable than the latest that is buggy.

I just checked this for you, buddy.  The only thing I see for this at all is the option under the Steam tab up top there is "Check for Steam Client Updates" then followed by "Update AMD Video drivers."

I have not seen any method for automated driver updates.  It all seems pretty nonintrusive to me.

Good thing they didn't do NVidia updates a while back, otherwise every Steam user's Fermi would be dead.

10.8 ati screwed with my overscan settings and they reset to default now whenever I turn my pc so I had to go back. No one makes perfect drivers all the time.

If they had a fermi, and had more common sense then a pack mule, then they would not be using steam to get their drivers.

now the steam forums will hopefully be less crowded with video driver-related issues, because users can now get the updates thru steam, which is a great idea.
