AMD Catalyst 11.5b Hotfix Resolves Flicker Issues
If you're the glass half empty type, AMD's penchant for releasing hotfixes in between major driver releases must drive you bonkers. 'Get it right the first time,' is what you're probably thinking. For those of you who sip from a glass half full, these hotfixes help address annoying issues without having to wait a month for the next full-blown driver update. With that in mind, you'll be either to be ticked to know or thrilled to find out that AMD just dropped its Catalyst 11.b hotfix for Windows 7 and XP.
The 11.5b hotfix includes performance optimizations and resolves various quality issues for the upcoming release of Brink. It also fixes transcoding video lagging issues seen when converting multiple H.264 clips to MPEG2 Blu-ray video, resolves an intermittent mouse cursor lag issue some users are reporting, and does away with intermittent flickering in systems using an AMD Radeon HD 6000 graphics card with DDR3 memory and running DirectX 9 mode in several titles.
Other changes include:
- Support for additional Stereo 3D-capable displays (Viewsonic V3D241wm-LED and 3D projectors)
- Enables AMD CrossFire scaling for Brink and for The Wither 2
- Improves performance in Dirt 3

Anyone who is angered by hotfixes is just stupid. Would you rather not have them? Problems are going to arise in new driver revisions, hence the solution is to either move the fix to the next driver release, or release a hotfix. I prefer the hotfix route.
