AMD Baits Entry Level Hook with Low Cost A4-3300 and 3400 Fusion APUs
So what if summer is over, the weather is still good for fishing, and AMD is hoping to reel in entry-level system builders working on a tight budget. The bait? A pair of new Fusion-powered A-series accelerated processing units (APUs), the A4-3300 and A4-3400. With the introduction of the A4-3300, the cost of entry for a desktop APU is now just $70, or at least that's where AMD wants it to be at.
Fresh out of the factory, not a whole lot of vendors are stocked up on these new chips just yet, and the few that are have them priced a little above AMD's MSRP. Amazon, for example, has the A4-3300 priced at $84, down from the e-tailer's list price of $95. Wait it out and you'll probably find vendors selling both chips closer to their suggested retail price.
In any event, the A4-3300 is a dual-core part clocked at 2.5GHz with an additional 500MHz available via Turbo Core. It has Radeon HD 6410D graphics clocked at 444MHz, 1MB of L2 cache, and supports DDR3-1600 memory.
The A4-3400 is essentially the same chip only clocked a little higher at 2.7GHz on the CPU and 600MHz on the GPU. Like the A4-3300, it has a TDP of 65W. This one is supposed to sell for $75, making it the better buy unless you're truly strapped for an additional 5-spot.
