AMD 12-Core Processor Spotted Online
Bored with six cores already? Maybe it's time to do double up, and if you have a deep wallet to work with (and the right platform), you can certainly do so.
Provantage has apparently begun taking orders for AMD's 12-core "Magny-Cours" Opteron X12 chips ahead of the part's official launch. The 12-core processors range in clockspeed from 1.7GHz to 2.4GHz and come with either 16MB or 18MB of combined cache (L2 and L3).
The chips are all built on a 45nm manufacturing process and draw between 65 watts and 105 watts of power. Provantage is selling the parts starting at about $800 (6164) and all the way to around $1,500.

...and surprised. The future is already here.
I am still using "notepad" - but imagine how fast I can type, cut and paste with 12 cores.
I've always said that Intel are losers.
But is it true? You sure had me fooled. AMD isn't even talking about it. This is an early April-fools leak, I think.

I like that Opteron 6136, 2.4GHz, 16MB total cache, $808.69. That's a nice deal, actually.

Isn't everything a computer does some form of number crunching and/or data calculations? I'm just sayin'...
