Wow Brad if you are ever in a situation where reading a book is not "socially acceptable" you should consider new company.

"Damnit Brad, why you's readin' that fancy paper thingy when the Friends is on the glowin' picture box?"

Meh...I'm still a paper dinosaur. I love getting a brand new, crispy book from Amazon (that actually might have some COLOR in it.)

I'd consider the Kindle if it was like fifty bucks and they lowered the costs on books. They are still way too expensive when you can get physical copy for a couple bucks more. Or they should give me the option of a digital download when buying a physical copy for like three bucks or something like that.

Don't need diesel trucks to ship the books, but you still need them to ship the e-readers.  And you still need the manufacturing plants to make them with.  And you still need the mining operations for the metals and materials for the plants to use.  So it may not be as "eco-friendly" as you think.

The main reason why paper books are getting to be dinosaurs is because it's a lot easier to carry a library around in one e-reader or tablet than a knapsack full of even part of a good sized home library.  Not to mention that these devices have a search tool built right in.

Huzzah!

I love eReading. It is all I do. I feel good knowing that by reading an eBook, I am no longer destroying trees to read books. That, and it does not require all that deisel fuel to power up those trucks to deliver them. Overall, I am very happy with the eBooks' sales numbers. I do not use a Kindle for my eReading, but I am happy to see eReaders making record sales... Even topping the ever-so-popular tablet craze.

I totally agree, Holly. Probably 80% of my book reading is virtual (though sometimes I just like to loaf on the couch with a cigar and one of the Malazan Books of the Fallen), and I love that not only is it better for the environment, but it's better for my wallet -- and I can take an e-reader to places that a book might not be socially acceptable (though I sometimes need to pass it off as a tablet. "Don't mind me, I'm working, online economy and all that.")

Great point there. You are definitely right when it comes to price. Plus, you can get free public domain books for any eReader using Google, which is sick! I was pretty shocked at the amount of free ebooks out there. I do not think I can say the same when it comes to the physical books. When it comes to that awkward moment when the cool tablet guy is showing off... I just sit with my legs cross and continue to read as I feel much more sophisticated using the eReader while he has the color "blind my eyes" tablet. I feel that eReaders are better for your eyes and they make you look smarter... Like, "hey, my source of entertainment is reading books" while the other guy is watching cartoons on his latest tablet. Don't get me wrong, but Tablets are cool looking, but I can not sit there, reading for 4 hours on a bright white screen with tiny black lettering. Eventually my eyes will begin to hurt a little. But they are kick-ass for movie viewing... So I guess it is a toss-up really.

I'll go on record as also being a fan of Brad, beards, and Brad's beard.

Man, the beard's small in that three-year old pic. Haven't cut it since. Furry rodents and confused-looking midgets wander out of the thing all the time, wondering what the hell just happened.

I'd like to call the beard a fashion statement, but it's more a result of sheer laziness, to be honest.
