Always Wanted a Microsoft Brand Laptop Stand? Well, They're Making One Anyway
Microsoft probably isn't the first company to come to mind when you think of cooling products, but the mega-software maker is looking to change that with the announcement of its new Notebook Cooling Base.
The notebook stand sports a slim design measuring just 1.16-inches thick and comes with a cable management clip to store the cable when not in use. The cooler is USB powered and includes a built-in fan for active cooling duties. Microsoft says the base is "contoured to rest on the both desks and users' laps, providing a comfortable typing angle."
The Notebook Cooling Base will be available starting in July in both white and black, with an MSRP of $30.

I found a product that worked better for my application. I have a Macbook Pro and needed a riser that I could take on and off frequently. In searching the web I found a product that I ordered from newpcgadgets called Laptop Smart Feet. I got them last week and have to say I LOVE them. They raise my Macbook and I can organize my cables. Since most of my cables are on the side the cable organizer on each leg directs the cables behind my computer or under. I guess it would recommend these for people who need something that easily removes for transport.

it is pretty ridiculous the market for these devices exists at all.
You are basically buying something to offset poor product design. If your laptop needs a powered cooler to run correctly the laptop manufacturer isn't doing their job.
Nobody would buy a car and then take it for granted they have to buy a large external fan to bolt onto the outside to keep the radiator cool. Car makers wouldn't be allowed to get away with it and consumers wouldn't be dumb enough to pay to offset the design flaw.

Microsoft has just issued new documentation on this product. It will not be Windows XP/Vista compatible, and will come in 5 different 'upgrade flavors'. If you get the 'Laptop Stand Ultimate' you will have unique features like glossier finish--don't miss it!

So only Win 7 huh? Darn....Well I guess I'll get the Starter edition for underdeveloped countries. I don't need a glossier finish.... I just need to be more developed!

Do you have to reboot (turn on and off) several times for it to work correctly? Will the fan freeze up suddenly then beep a certain code? Will it tell you that your WEI for your laptop at random intervals that it's not good enough and need to upgrade?

Slow down there pal, could you explain this "reboot" more completely? I could use help with "laptop" and "fan" too, while you're at it.
