All-in-One PC Shipments to Hit 6.5 Million
Global all-in-one PC shipments for 2009 may breeze past previous forecasts. According to a report in China’s Commercial Times, global all-in-one PC shipments for 2009 are now expected to touch 6.5 million units, which is considerably higher than the previous estimate of 5 million units.
The new estimate will certainly please Apple, for it alone is expected to ship 3 million units. The very report further says that the penetration rate of all-in-one PCs – computers with the monitor and CPU bundled together in one console – will rise to 5% this year, 9% in 2009, and 12% in 2012.

Ahem. Has anyone considered "cleaning house" to make room? Just food for thought.

I never really understood the need for all-in-ones or iMacs. They tend to combine the immobility and size of a desktop with the price, power and (lack of) upgrading room of a laptop. If someone REALLY does not want to have a tower hooked up to a monitor, and simply have a thick monitor, then I guess that it's a plausible option, but how many people who don't have enough deskspace would consider a desktop? They'd get a beefy laptop, and then buy a big monitor and docking station for when they need to use a bigger screen and full keyboard/mouse.
