Alienware's Sorta-netbook Priced at $799
Alienware is not usually known for building energy efficient systems. The amount of time you can keep a gaming laptop running is best measured in minutes. Certainly a netbook is unlikely to come from them, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a sorta netbook.
The new Alienware M11x will apparently be capable of up to 6.5 hours of battery life. This feat is thanks to switchable graphics. When battery life is of concern, the laptop can use the integrated graphics. If setting up for a mobile gaming session, the unit can take advantage of the NVIDIA GT335M.
It’s in the upper realm of netbook size with an 11.6in screen, and weighs in at a rather hefty 4.5lbs. The design is a little weird, but aesthetics are such a personal thing. The MSRP is pretty reasonable at $799, though. Is anyone planning to take a look at one of these?

I'm in the market to replace an aging Dell Inspiron 6000. The performance and screen contrast are poor by today's standards. The reason I keep it is because of the speakers, which are better than most laptops. Sure, I can get a laptop with speakers that are just as good or better for around $1500... but I'm not looking to drop that much cash into something that I use as a portable music/movie computer (as well as check email, MS word, etc).
Netbooks don't work for me due to their sluggish performance and weak speaker system. However, as long as the speakers are good on this puppy... it could be my ticket to a new portable machine!
Alienware, count me in!!

Hate to burst some bubbles here but this isn't a notebook. It is 11.6 inch screen which as they say in the article "It’s in the upper realm of netbook size". It maybe cool because of the Alienware name and the hardware in it but are you really going to game on that small of a screen?

My Gaming Notebook is 13.3 inches and is 3 years old...i dunno a 2 inch loss for such a boost in performance and battery life...maybe...

I am not saying it won't work but it looks like some people have the idea that it is a regular size laptop. I wouldn't mind having one but an 11inch screen even for someone with good eyes will still be a bit difficult wouldn't it. Or is that just a warped thought because I am used to 17" and bigger screens? I would use it for videos and work type of stuff but idk.

That's why you can plug it in an external display. I personally wouldn't do "alot" of gaming on the go but while at home, I could hook it up to a larger monitor or tv and play.

I totally want one of these. I have been using a 17" Dell Inspiron with a Nvidia 6800 since the summer of 2005 for my traveling entertainment needs and it's long overdue to be replaced. It's not well suited for travel, but has been back and forth on multiple Trans-Atlantic flights and now is in its second rotation in Iraq. I'll definitely be happy to have something a little more managable, and as long as that price tag sets me up with a decent system, I'm in.

Back when the first ever "gaming" netbook came out, the Asus N10J equipped with A GeForce 9300M, I snapped it up... I've since sold it. The 10" screen was just a tiny bit too small, and though I thought since I had a fast desktop, I could deal with the Atom and 9300M... but it was just too slow for the $700 I paid and no new game was playable even at lowest settings. But this one seems to be everything the N10J was missing- more comfortable screen, Core 2 Duo, and a very powerful GPU for a netbook. I've got a fast desktop, and this thing will be able to play anything (obviously not at highest, but like I said, that's my desktop's job) on the go.

I really wanted to get a gaming desktop, more like a dual i7 core server, but I might just get this since the battery life of my current Alienware laptop (listed below) has such a battery that once you unplug it, it dies.

I have an old Macbook I am looking to upgrade from. This would be sweet. I hate not having a very powerful but portable machine. I could take this thing to classes and not thing twice.

I'm not in the market for something that small. I'd rather get a tablet and a high end gaming laptop. I am back though. I just purchased a new laptop that is capable of gaming but only barely with ATI HD 4570 graphics.
It really is amazing on how much laptop you can purchase for $600 To $700 dollars.
But a netbook should not be more than $400 dollars. Not unless it can double as a tablet or have some other special feature that sets it out way above the ordinary. Really what kind of gaming can you look forward to on an 11" display? There are laptops for $800 dollars that are capable of gaming with really good Nvidia graphics like the GT260 mobile GPU and a Core2Duo processor and 4 or more gigs of ram. Laptop prices are freaking great right now. Netbooks have really done a great job of bringing prices down.
