Adata Starts Shipping Super Fast S511 Solid State Drive
You know the solid state drive market is progressing at a breakneck pace when even Adata is churning out high-performance SSDs. Adata, perhaps best know for building entry-level components aimed at budget builders, announced the first shipments of its S511 SSDs built around the SandForce SF-2200 series controller. Jumping off the porch to run with the big dogs, the S511 SSD series represents Adata's first foray into SATA 6Gb/s territory.
Armed with a speedy SandForce chip with native support for SATA 6Gb/s, the S511 series boasts read and write speeds of up to 550MB/s and 520MB/s, respectively. They're also capable of up to 60,000 IOPS 4K random writes in real world testing, Adata says. What it all equates to is being able to transfer a 5GB video file in as few at 15 seconds.
Available capacities and performance specs include:
- 60GB: Up to 550Mb/s read, up to 500MB/s write
- 120GB: Up to 550MB/s read, up to 510MB/s write
- 240GB: Up to 550MB/s read, up to 520MB/s write
- 480GB: Up to 540MB/s read, up to 460MB/s write
The S511 drives come with a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch bracket. No word on price or availability, though we did a little digging and found a single vendor -- Adorama -- selling them for $200 (60GB), $300 (120GB), $630 (240GB), and $1,600 (480GB).
