Acer: US PCs to be Extinct in 20 Years, Sucka!
Those of you sporting a PC made in the the good ol' U.S. of A. may want to take note - two decades from now, you'll have no choice but to buy a foreign-made computer. Why? Because according to Acer founder Stan Shih, U.S. computer brands are on their way out.
"The trend for low-priced computers will last for the coming years," said Shih. "But US computer makers just don't know how to put such products on the market... US computer brands may disappear over the next 20 years, just like what happened to US television brands."
Acer's been on a roll the past year, nudging ahead of US-based Dell in a photo-finish as the world's second-largest computer vendor, and should Acer continue to fly high, it could pass HP, another US computer maker, for the top spot by 2011.

Not true: "But US computer makers just don't know how to put such products on the market..."
True: "US computer brands may disappear over the next 20 years, just like what happened to US television brands."
Our faithful politicians have just make it cheaper for companies to manufacture off shore.
It's killing the US.

Just take a chance (if you havent built your own) and do it yourself!!! I still have my original 1st build... of course its out dated but it STILL works... i got burned out for building PCs for people years ago... bought my first DELL 5 years ago and it crapped out on me after 1 year. Built my own PC after that and never had to look back. Honestly, you get what you pay for... and YOU control what you can add to it. Cant say its not THEIR fault, Acer caught them napping.

Acer product is an example of racing to the bottom: cheap price, dubious quality, and horrible customer support. I'd go to Apple if they ever come to dominate the PC market.

Blame our gov't for this one folks. High taxes and other things made our companies outsource it's products to these other countries that are now taunting us. With that said though, yeah overseas crap is cheaper for the most part, but that's because they get away with slave labor. I mean, paying thier employees next to nothing. No insurance, no vacation, and no raises unless they are a total genius and graduated from an american college, then and only then they'll pay em good. If it weren't for us americans, most of those coutries would be under chinese or japanese rule. Not to mention getting our butt kicked by North Korea so South Korea could still exist. Screw you Acer. If it weren't for us americans buying your products, you'd be SOL because we probably make up a HUGE portion of your profit share.

Yep and that new mobo came from Taiwan and has Japanese made caps on it as a selling point. The Intel CPU probably came from Malaysia after being designed in Israel. Or maybe its an AMD from Germany. The Seagate HDD came from Malaysia or China.
Alot of the software we use on a daily basis comes from all over the world. I use a program every day from the Czeck Republic that has no real domestic competition.
This industry is truely global and mostly NOT in the US. Its not a shock to think that if all the components are made in another county it would be cheaper to assymble them there rather than here.

People should learn to build their own computers, it's cheaper and you don't have to call someone at the smallest issue. With sites like MaximumPC it's easy! :D

That is very true, unless... HP / Compaq management would take a pay-cut in order to give us competitive matching prices against foreign-made. Yeah sure.. CEO agreeing to take a pay-cut in this country !
