The only way this is a smart move is if Acer manufactures(or contracts) markets and sells desktop support devices for the thing. Oddly enough the same company is marketing a dual touchscreen Notebook, so I definitely question this move when they have something that can beat a tablet in performance but decide to phase out Netbooks which can do more than tablets can as it is.

Is Apples miniscule market share really worth doing something this drastic?

I think it's a good move. Being that the profit margins are so small for netbooks (10-15% which is roughly $20-30 per netbook) amidst the sea of netbooks to choose from, it's good to see they're moving out and giving consumers something "new".
