Acer Launches Netbook with a Split Personality

Why choose between cake or ice cream if you can have them both? It just so happens that the two treats combine to make one awesome dessert, and Acer's hoping that philosophy extends beyond food. Enter the Timeline 1825PT, which is part netbook and part tablet all rolled into one.

As a netbook, the 11.6-inch Timeline sports a Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor (1.3GHz), up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, 250 or 320GB hard drive, integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, HDMI/VGA, memory card reader, a 6-cell battery offering up to eight hours of run time, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

The multi-touch screen display can swivel or fold down to transform the Timeline into a tablet with the same specs. Either way, Acer claims you can ditch your mouse and be no worse off for doing so.

"Your touch experience with the Aspire 1825PT begins with the Acer TouchPortal, where you can find a full suite of applications for fun and entertainment," Acer said. "Here you can see your pictures or play your music and videos simply by dragging them onto the virtual wall. You can also find a touch optimized web browser and jot down notes with your fingers using TouchMemo."

This one's available now, at least overseas, starting at £599.99 (about $886 USD).
