Acer Confident that it Will Replace Dell on the Throne
Look out Dell, Acer's hot on your heels and the OEM knows it. The Taiwanese manufacturer is confident it will leapfrog Dell for the No. 1 spot in the US, saying it believes it will dethrone the OEM sometime within the next two quarters.
And Acer isn't just beating its chest, either. According to data from research firm Gartner, Acer is on pace to claim a larger share of the global market in the third quarter, although it has a ways to go before it will catch up to Dell in the U.S, where the OEM owns a 26.2 percent share of the market., comfortably ahead of Acer's 13.9 percent.
It wasn't just Dell that Acer has in its sights. According to The Wall Street Journal, Acer president Gianfranco Lanci believes his company will also surge past HP when it comes to notebooks, netbooks, and smartphones.

Note: Edited to clarify Dell's position as the number 1 PC OEM in the US.

A search containing "keyboard and mouse not working, Acer laptop" will result in thousands of disappointed owners of new Acer laptops. One look at the models having the same issue would cement in your mind this fact. Laptops manufactured by Acer have been failing due to sudden non responsive keyboard, mouse and USB ports. These failures generally appear after the warranty period. However a review of the many posts on help sites show, owners with problems as early as 1 week post purchase. Sure Acer's laptop are sleek, thin, and appear to have an affordable retail price structure. However, When a moderately priced Acer fails faster than average Laptop the solution is increased cost for the owner. The only option the owner has is pay to repair, or replace the faulty device.
A customer looking for a reasonably priced laptop with a budget of $560.00 within 14 month would have spent a total of $875.00 if they repair, and $1,160.00 if they replace. Customers do your research, Acer has a known problem and continues to flood the market with defective laptops.
Please e-mail lovebug653@yahoo.com if you purchased an Acer Laptop that failed soon after warranty. I am considering a class action suit against Acer.

I actually don't have a problem with any ACER products. Avery ACER Motherboard and other products I have bought I never had a problem with. They haven't even died to over use... yet lol.

I purchased an acer laptop, I was unable to back up my OS using their utility. The system failed within 3 months of purchase. I was never able to get a replacement setup disk. I would never purchase anything Acer makes.
Dell actually has a good customer support. My next laptop will be a dell, no matter how inexpensive Acer products are.

Gartner also forecasted a ~6% decline in 3Q09 PC shipments and there was actually a small bump; six percent doesn't sound that bad of a miss, but that translates to millions of units. You would think they'd have a better finger-on-the-pulse than that. They're also predicting that Win7 will have a minimal impact on PC sales... I guess that remains to be seen but it sure seems like everyone I've spoken with regarding Win7 (aside from those with an axe to grind vs. MS) all have plans for a Win7 box in the near future.
