Acer Bets on October 23, 2009 for Win 7 Release

Should you be worried about the July 1, 2010 "drop dead" date for Windows 7 RC, which was released today? Not according to Acer. In an interview with Pocket-Lint's Chris Hall, Bobby Watkins, Acer UK's Marketing Director, says that October 23, 2009 will be the day that Windows 7 will be available.
Believable? One comment from a US-based reader points out that October 23
...comes at the end of the major U.S. back-to-school selling season and could postpone buying by thousands of people in order to get into the 30-day free upgrade cycle [Acer says that purchases 30 days or less before the Windows 7 release qualify for a free upgrade]. The Microsoft OEM's will absolutely hate this date because it will cost them money.
On the other hand, the date falls comfortably before the holiday season (Microsoft missed the 2006 holiday season with Windows Vista). At any rate, Microsoft's hedging its bets: while the Windows 7 beta starts shutting down on July 1 2010 and quits completely on August 1 2010, Windows 7 RC will work well after the date Acer's claiming for RTM availability. (And, by the way, if you follow Will Smith's Twitter stream, you could have gotten your copy last night). If you've already been playing with Windows 7 RC, how close do you think it is to being ready to ship? Hit Comment and sound off!

I really hope it comes out before next June. I'm a student at Michigan
and we get software super cheap (Vista Ultimate for $5, office
enterprise for $45). Vista was only $20 when it first came out,
hopefully it will be the same for Win7. You have to sign all this
paperwork saying you won't give it to anyone outside the university and
you won't resell it.
They very well may release

They very well may release this in October because the Beta and RC are both rock steady. This has to be the best Beta I've ever messed with. I still have not seen any kind of Blue Screen at all with Windows 7 from Beta to RC1.
Of course the Subject is Windows 7

I really don't care if Windows 7 is released in October or next June. I've tried all the versions of Windows since 3.1, and this one is by far the best. When I got my hands on 7000 I realized that Win 7 was going to be different, but I never thought it would be as excellent as it is. I got my RC today and since it is good until next year that gives me time to save my money to buy it. I haven't seen a price for it yet, but hopefully an upgrade from Vista won't cost an arm and leg.
I hope that I will have my computer cleaned off and ready for the install tomorrow. Now comes the fun part.

ATI needs to come out with a TV card driver for 7. I've had the same card I have now since about a week after I baught Vista. If they don't, Iwill be totally thru with ATI. Already I absolutely refuse to use an ATI video card because of stuff like this. Found an HDMI caputre card for $200 that will serve my purposes of wanting an HD signal tho.

I thought ATI had a work around for it's TV Wonder cards and Windows Vista because Windows Vista does things differently then XP the TV wonder cards didn't work without the work around. Now the TV Wonder does work but you have to use a stand alone media center that is seperate from Windows because the Media Center built into Windows wont work with the Wonder card. There is a work around. I to hope they fixed the problem though. That screwed alot of people. Not me but alot because I have a nice tv to watch tv on.

I bought this card for Vista. It works fine for the most part as long as I just use it for cable. As soon as I try to use it for Radio or Over The Air Digital it kinda throwsa fit to get it to go back to cable. It takes a little bit of drama to get it back to cable but it will go back. Since I'm using Vista x64 Ultimate, I use Windows Media Center to use the card. I have read that a few of the driver sets work with 7 last night. I guess it's time to back stuff up in case I have to reformat. As a side note, this computer is in my bedroom and functions as a TV among other things.
Sooner rather then later

Well I hope it is released sooner rather then later. I am holding off on a new PC for the family (really me) until this comes out.
Just put the RC version on
