Acer Aspire 1551 Lands in U.S., Suffers Identity Crisis
Measuring 11.22 x 8.03 x 1.01 inches with an 11.6-inch screen, it's tough to decide whether Acer's Aspire 1551 is a souped up netbook or a thin-and-light notebook (it weighs just 3.09 pounds). Either way, it's now shipping in the U.S.
Acer's Aspire 1551 packs a bit more punch than what you'll find in most netbooks. It comes built around AMD's Turion II Neo K625 processor (1.5GHz) and sports 4GB of DDR3 memory. Other specs include ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, multi-card reader, 1.3MP webcam, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Also included is a 6-cell battery, which unlike bona fide netbooks, only yields up to 5 hours of run time on the 1551.
Several vendors are now carrying the Aspire 1551 for around $550, including Amazon, Newegg, Tiger Direct, and others.

I bought last year's model: AS1410-8414. Same dimensions and screen-size. And there are just slight cosmetic differences. Mine has a Core2Solo though and only 3GB. It gets 4.5hrs of battery life. I got it for $380 brand new online. Very good build-quality - no creaking, etc. Super impressed for a notebook that only costs $380.
