i was all excited about AION things were great till hmmm maybe low 20"s (the gold spaming was intense) the bots really hadn't been a problem.  that changed, on many of the quests there would be bots killing the object fo the quest,  one quest wanted you to kill a queen bee that had a slow spawn time and multiple spawn points, easy kill,  but by the time you found the right spawn point  a power lvling bot had killed her (she spawned in an area with lots of targets making powerlvling bots do well. you could tell they were bots because they were killing everything and there for days at a time)..

the game was just weeks old and gold spamers had already ruined the ingame economy

no way would i do that grind  when what i consider important features of a game were trashed.

i sure would like my $50 back

Very strange I think that they would ban 16000 peeps from playing (or paying!). I like the idea of fair play but umm 16000 x $15.00 is $240,000 you won't be seeing anymore NCSoft. Thats before the botted or multiple accounts of normal players stop paying too. I have not played this MMO but I can see its fast on its way to the grave or better yet; running on a single server soon. Guess they already got the $50 bucks for the game..and who knows..maybe they never intentionally planned to keep the servers running anyhow.

I had played for a while but like with all other MMO's I played I got bored real quick.

If you had gone to Aion's forums (all MMO forums are dreadful and full of very little useful information and and over abundance of whining), you would have seen forums full of posts: "I'm quitting, spam is ridiculous" or "botters are out of control, I quit".  There where hundreds of these types of posts and it was believed by many conspiracist that NCSoft was supporting or even sponsoring these bots.

This is an excellent step that NCSoft has taken, although after two months I'm curious if it may be a little too late.  Then, there is also the fact of preventing new accounts from coming back in.  They had some controls in place which worked for the spam - log in, sit for about 3-5 minutes blocking spam, then go about your way.  This was the bandaid fix for the problem.

16,000 people ruining a game that had (if I remember correctly) about 500,000 pre-orders.  A small fraction of the user base.

Or Maybe...just maybe! they are banning the bad eggs to make a better environment for the people who like to legimately play so that when those people notice cheaters day after day, they won't get upset and eventually end Their subscription. I'm pretty sure Those are the people that they don't want to lose. Your rational, although may hold weight, hints you may be doing some of the same thing in another MMO...then again, I think its up to NCSoft to work on a better way to proactively stop this from occuring already. This is a new game and those many people already cheat? I think some re-coding may need to be done.
