1.5 Million Apple Haters Have Preordered the T-Mobile G1 Android Phone

It doesn't matter that the first-generation iPhone lacked 3G functionality or that early adopters were slapped in the face so quickly after its release. Even intentional bricking through a firmware update hasn't been enough to knock Apple's iPhone off its pedestal as the must-have cellular phone for geeks and hipsters alike. Can T-Mobile's HTC G1 Android phone deliver the right hook and make this a fight?
It's far too early to tell, but early indications look promising. According to the Motley Fool, T-Mobile subscribers have already gobbled up all of the available preorders for initial shipments of the G1, prompting T-Mobile to triple its order with handset maker HTC. Those have sold out too. All tallied, roughly 1.5 million G1s are already accounted for, with another couple million reserved for retail sales.
That still puts the G1 far behind the 10 million iPhones Apple said it would like to sell this year, but it's a good start for a phone that hasn't even been released yet and still won't be for another couple of weeks. And if the G1 is going to have any chance at taking a bite out of Apple, it's going to need to come out strong and convince buyers there's more to the Android platform than hype.
Anyone plan on picking one up or already placed a preorder? Hit the jump and sound off.

Please don't assume we are buying the G1 because we do not like Apple or the iPhone
I chose the G1 because of the lower price, keyboard, Android, GPS, etc.

I can't preorder the phone

I can't preorder the phone because I have a bad credit special account. It's the same service as any account it's just that the phone shuts disconnects if I'm late paying my bill. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these probably in November or December.

I'm kind of bummed they didn't put UMA in it, but I will probably get one also once I play with it to make sure it's cool.
Android is the PC of Cell phones.
I will never buy an Apple product and be locked into their gay little world.

I dont like contracts, so I'm on the $10 a month for a TracFone plan.
And when you introduce a new thing such as this only with 1 carrier, it limits your perspective buyers. Didnt they learn from Apple's mistake?

It's with T-Mobile right now

It's with T-Mobile right now but in a few months other carriers will carry them as there is no exclusivity contract between T-Mobile and HTC with this phone. T-Mobile just happens to be the first carrier to offer this phone. Pretty awsome because I am a T-Mobile customer so they should just give me one to show that they appreciate my buisness.
