I really hope Dragon Age III is more like Origins. DA2 was a great game, but it was more of an action-RPG than anything else. DA:O was a more slow-paced, tactical RPG, and I like games like that.

THI4F!

'nuff said.

I also agree with the list provided, with one exception: Battlefield 4. Battlefield 3 is just now in full swing and EA announces its successor already?? And what exactly is so different with the new game vs. the one out now? Nothing! EA dropped the ball on this big time. Battlefield 4 should be more futuristic and offer more variety than BF3, but it doesn't offer anything new. New vehicles and aircraft along with a larger variety of weapons smells just like a BF3 expansion pack rather than a new game. BF4 should be set several decades into the future and not set right after BF3. Everyone wants the next-generation weapons to be part of the game and not the same old crap that we've been playing for the last few years. Let's see the new tech that are so prevelant in all the hardware tech shows (i.e., future weapons, etc). Also, EA lost a lot of credibility from the gaming community with regards to BF3. EA and Punkbuster (big time joke and no credible reputation) have done absolutely nothing to reduce the number of hackers and cheaters in the servers. The game has been out for almost two years, yet jump into any large server in the evening and at least one cheater is present - never fails. Until EA fixes all of these issues, I will never buy another Battlefield game again - period.

I hope they don't turn BF into Call of Duty with a new game every year. I pay up for all the expansions and maps and now a new one is coming out this year? I hope they don't think I'll fall for the same thing twice. I'll just stick with BF3 until the servers are empty.

No mention of CoH2 or the new Total War game? Shooters are okay but strategy is a lot of fun too.

avatar

stradric

CoH2 is definitely anticipated for me at least, but is it really going to have much of a presence at E3? There's an open beta after all. It's not something that is hard to get details on such that I would expect them to have to reveal anything at E3.

Witcher 3 is a definite buy. Thief might be cool. Other than that though, a bunch of shooters. That's exactly what I'm building a PC to get away from. I'd say I'm looking forward to Dragon Age 3 but between online multiplayer and probably game-breaking DRM, I'll wait until it's selling for $20.

I was hoping to find next Fallout game on the list or better yet; Fallout online

It's a little depressing that so few of these games are likely purchases for me. I don't generally play EA or UBI games because of their DRM platforms. The Call of Duty games are always a bad value unless played online, but they are miserable on a slow connection. And I absolutely refuse to patronize TES Online - the damned oath-breakers.

I am super excited for witcher 3.

There really arent enough mature themed games around.

not that the adult moments in the witcher series aren't eye-rolling, but its better than the usual antiseptically scrubbed interactions in most games.

As you have mentioned below, Brittany, i think Tomb Raider has gone a long way towards conveying a true feeling of how we really interact with the world.

avatar

I'm sorry but since you missed Rome 2 Total War I find this list as a multiplatform most anticipated not PC most anticipated.

avatar

stradric

The next season of games may be the first in a while where a majority of the titles were developed on PC first. So complaining about multiplatform on those grounds seems unnecessary. On other grounds, ridiculous.

I love apocalypse movies and shows like Jerecho, Revoloution and especially Zombie stuff. So of course I am a Left 4 dead Player. Now with that I am looking forward to No More Room In Hell and War Z games.
Make sure you go watch Brad Pitt's World War Z and if you have not read the book, it was a bestseller and really, really good. Also Check out Walking Dead Comic ( comixology.com) and Show. There I guess by now you know I like Zombie movies and stuff.

avatar

wolfing

not interested in any of them. I don't like shooters (or action games in general), so that's like 90% of the list. Mildly interested in Skyrim Online, only to see if it brings anything new to the MMO arena (doubtful, it's probably be the same 'solo to max level and raid same dungeon daily after that'.
Guess the games I like are not in E3... Europa Universalis 4, Chaos Chronicles, and a bunch of kickstarter games is what I'm looking forward to.

Batman and no superman game in sight am just saying 2013 and we can harness the power of technology.

Broken Age? Seriously?

ffs

avatar

Brittany Vincent

What do you suggest as a substitute?

avatar

vrmlbasic

The background graphics look alright in that Brothers game but the character models shown look pretty dated in that screenshot: change the hair a bit and they could go into a console JRPG.

That said, if it has coop (as the premise implies IMO) I'll be intrigued.

I hope that Thief will be a longer game, with a more developed world and larger, more nuanced levels than Dishonored. Dishonored was a fun game, but much too easy (and way too sanctimonious). It was yet another example of potential killed by Consolitis and hopefully Thief will be immune. Though IMO the "reboot/sequel" curse will be upon Thief as I don't want to see it bastardized as were Tomb Raider and Hitman in their latest "incarnations". Can a game dodge the horrible reboot curse and the consolitis both?

avatar

Brittany Vincent

I didn't much care for the latest Hitman, but I have to disagree with you on Tomb Raider. True, it was a staggering departure from what we know as Tomb Raider, but it was an excellent game. I went into it expecting to hate it, and upon completion found myself immediately wanting to return. It may be a much different monster than we knew growing up with Lara, but would you still feel the same way had it been a different IP?

avatar

jonnyohio

Really looking forward to thief...among fans of the game there will be no comparison with dishonored though...there is no comparison. dishonored was good but thief it is not. I'm interested in war dogs too. Everything else is meh...will prob get a couple of those titles but I'm not all excited over them.

avatar

Brittany Vincent

I'm all kinds of unreasonably excited for Thief. I'm a taffer for life. Grew up with that excellent series and watched it mature into something dark and fantastic. I'm ready to see what it's evolved into these days. I'm hoping to be able to call it the same kind of triumph as the original game.

avatar

TrollBot5000

I'm still enjoying Skyrim even though there really isn't much to do when you're an 86 and have explored everything but I'm at a crossroads when it comes to Elder Scrolls Online. I'm 30 years old so do I really want to get back into that life(less)style of living the same way I did back when I was a world of warcrack addict? I love Skyrim so the intrigue is there but to actually take the plunge into another mmo? probably not the best idea.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Games like that are a hell of a fun way to spend your leisure-time. ...but once you hit 30 or especially 40 life doesn't seem so seemingly infinite anymore.

I think that's part of the reason why I don't play so many games anymore. I'd really like to but I have shit I really need to accomplish while I'm still on this side of the grass ;)

avatar

John Pombrio

Except when you retire! I get to play games all day, every day. Of course, by that time, my wrist is killing me from all the mousing and I had to go to therapy for my shoulder pains. Now I get to wear bracers on my shoulder and wrist.
With unlimited time in a game tho, I eventually burn out and is actually painful to go back into the game. WoW Mists kept me busy for 2-3 months but now I completely ignore the game. I have just seen and done all that I wanted to do and it gets just too repetitive. Same with Skyrim. Started over with new character and meh...

avatar

Engelsstaub

Yeah, now that you mention it retirement does sound like a good time to play a lot of games. Either that or fish. I'd pick games :)

I gave up on wow sometime during lich king then played again on 4.0.6 cata private server then realized I was just wasting my time and quit for good. Don't get me wrong I love love love love role playing games but I just don't have the time to devote to them like I used to which is why I need to resist Elder scrolls online because I have an addictive personality and if I start it I won't stop. Skyrim is the last rpg I've played and although it's a bit weak story wise and buggy as all hell still even with patch 1.9 I consider it a casual rpg. Levelling isn't that hard especially being able to reset perks to legendary and it helps alot if you're in the dark brotherhood. you can use shadowmere as a punching bag for combat grinding and if you managed to get the spectral assassin who is the ghost of lucien lahance from Oblivion as a bonus from a dark brotherhood quest you can set it to novice and have him beat on you to level armor perks and block. Pickpocketing: bribe guards then pickpocket money back. Speech: petty crimes then pursuade. Lockpicking is the only skill I found to just flat out be tedious and painstaking to level. I'm an 86 Khajiit assassin/thief but honestly levelling that high doesn't even seem to matter though since even on legendary the game is so easy. The Dawnguard stuff was fun and challenging especially when vampires raid cities but Dragonborn...meh The last fight with Miraak was so underwhelming and easy. I think I'll keep levelling just to see how far I can get just for the hell of it to pass the time. I tried starting a new character as well and died trying to make it out of Helgen in the beginning and said the same thing. Meh...do I really want to go through this game again no way.

avatar

TrollBot5000

exactly man. There comes a point to where you have to prioritize. I used to describe myself as a "hardcore" gamer. Gaming nonstop since NES came out but nowdays I've demoted myself to casual. I spend most of my time glued to my pc but I make good use of it studying networking and linux and keeping up with all the tech sites like this one and others and only pick up a game here and there when I'm not in the mood for a movie, music, tv show, ebook etc... and when I do play a game it's just one game at a time. That Thief reboot looks nice so I might make that my next game and hold on to my will power to not give into Elder scrolls online. MMOS: Just say NO!!!

Oh yeah by the way man not to sound stalkerish or anything but I just so happen to be into metal and frequent metalsucks and noticed your avatar there and thought holy shit isnt that englesstaub?! Cheers

avatar

Engelsstaub

Yeah, it's me "Jay."

It's not stalkerish. (Opinionated assholes like myself are all over the internet. You're bound to run into many of the same screen-names/small world.) I'm on a few different websites and I don't go too far out of my way to hide my identity. I always figure if i have something stupid to say or some cyber-argument to lose I can own my BS ;)

The Disqus trolling on MS is getting out of hand and Axl's obsession with the political beliefs of a few musicians is pretty obnoxious. I still read it anyway and there's a few ppl that comment regularly there that are worth "talking" to \m/

avatar

TrollBot5000

Yeah I guess I should make an account then we can chat there. Yeah it's mostly as they say his "hate boner" for Dave Mustaine and Metallica and now apparently Jason Newstead. I listened to that first podcast they did and yeah Axl seems like he can be a prick but I guess that goes with the territory when your co editor of a metal site. If anything metal fans are highly passionate and opinionated and at times elitist snobs.

avatar

ScytheNoire

Only saw two: Thief and Watch Dogs.

avatar

TommM

Too many sequels or re-makes. Original ideas are hard to come by, I guess....

avatar

Freebar

I suppose it's too much to expect Gordon Freeman whacking ice to board the Borealis? In the time since Half-Life 2, Episode 2 I could've raised a kid to the fourth grade.

avatar

Engelsstaub

The Witcher 3 looks like it will be an awesome game.

I know you didn't include GTA V but I wonder if it will actually debut for PC at the same time as the consoles... GTA 4 didn't. It took them like six more months.

avatar

jimmthang

We tried to create a list of not only confirmed titles, but confirmed will be at E3! Hope that helps! :)

- Jimmy

avatar

Engelsstaub

Yeah, I can wait and find out. :) Thanks, Jimmy.

avatar

Brittany Vincent

I agree, it would be nice if it came out at around the same time. Maybe I'd be able to rope a few more friends into playing.

avatar

Engelsstaub

I won't wait if it doesn't. Honestly GTA IV wasn't *that* much better on PC than console anyway. I had pretty high-end hardware and could only get about 25-30 FPS with it on PC. I'm no dev but I suspect Rockstar just doesn't code their games to take advantage of PC hardware.
