“Very Different” Team Fortress 2 Mode Incoming, New Class Possible

In a talky-torial published at The Escapist, Team Fortress 2 developer Robin Walker hinted at yet another presumably free addition to TF2’s bullet-ridden house of hilarity. And fortunately for those who’ve moved onto grayer pastures, the article touts a “very different” mode currently just out of sniping range.

"A new Payload map is in the works, more community maps are on the way and the team will soon unveil a very different new game mode," read the article.

In addition, Walker confirmed that Valve has all manner of new class designs just waiting to get their shots at the small screen, but wouldn’t give a timeframe for their deployment.

“We've got several new class designs floating around, some of which we like a lot, but right now we're focusing on the broadening of our existing classes through the addition of the unlockables," he said.

Frankly, as long as Valve tosses up a few more “Meet the ____” movies, we’ll be dandy. How about you?

avatarOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I desperately want a new "Meet the (insert dude here)" movie to rollout. I loved the meet the Sandvich vid. Valve should probably add some sort of obvious female character to the game, kinda like Zoe in Left 4 Dead. And by obvious I mean no speculation like, "Oh, well the Pyro has a flower purse in its locker" or "how can you tell with all that bulky clothing?"

avatarIt brought nothing new to

It brought nothing new to the table, no new modes, no new characters, it just tweaked the graphics and some of the gameplay.  Don't get me wrong, its still a great game, but I've been waiting for something more since back in the day.  Remember when they were going to make it more realistic?  That was something new.  I'm glad they kept the gameplay similar, but I wish they would have added new stuff from the beginning.

avatarI'm a fan of TF2, but I feel

I'm a fan of TF2, but I feel I have to say this.  ABOUT F'N TIME.  This stuff should have came out when the game was released instead of just retexturing everything and changing a few little things here and there.  Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but I don't really feel this is TF2 just TF1.5.  Same game modes, same characters, mostly the same maps, just different graphics.  It just felt more like a mod than a new game.  I think the addition of some new modes and a new character or two would really help me feel like the game has gone somewhere.

avatarNot TF 1.5

Dude, TF 1.5 was Team Fortress Classic. This can be considered 2 because it's not JUST a graphics update. This is a complete new game engine (aka Source Engine) and there were new modes introduced, as well as unlockables. Between playing both TF Classic, and TF 2, there is a difference in the gameplay.

Now I agree, some new characters would spice it up more, but I still don't see it being just a mere "mod", this is indeed a sequal.

avatarTell me what changed between

Tell me what changed between 1 and 2 other than the graphics and the small tweaking of some of the gameplay mechanics?  What if in Portal 2 all they do is update the graphics and changed the layout on some of the maps they already had?  Or what if when Duke Nukem Forever comes out all they did was update the graphics of Duke Nukem from the N64?  We waited 10 years and they didn't add anything significantly new, other than the new graphics.
