MySpace Decline is Accelerating
New numbers from Comscore indicate the demise of MySpace is happening faster than most had expected. Between January and February 2011, MySpace lost 14.4% of its monthly users. In raw numbers, that's a drop to 63 million from 73 million. They had twice this many users a year ago.
The classic social networking site had been on a steady decline ever since Facebook and Twitter became the new hotness. Parent company News Corp has been looking into a sale of the once dominant site, but with numbers falling off like this, we're not sure the search will go well. Stable decline is one thing, but the recent drop could spell doom for MySpace.
A social network relies on the network effect. If you cannot communicate with the people you want to on a service, you won't use it, other people won't use it, and it dies. The time when MySpace stops being appealing for just about everyone could be fast approaching. The likes of Facebook may want to take note of this scenario. The internet is a fickle beast.

MySpace has always been horrendous. This news makes me happy because I hate News Corp. Good schadenfreude here.
Facebook won out over myspace because it's way more classy. MySpace is like the Geocities of our time. Facebook is also trash though, but it has its uses, and those uses are way more elegant than anything on MySpace. I think it's mostly used by indy bands now.

MySpace heads off into the sunset.
It is no longer relevant, much like AOL.

I think I only visited MySpace once, and immediately closed the tab when it started blaring music. Not cool.

MySpace is killing itself IMO. It used to be a good place to "meet" people you normally wouldn't and to spout off in blogs and interact with other bloggers. (Facebook was more for "real" friends and serious "likes." I still appreciate it.)
Now it's just a huge freaking advertisement. It's also just a way for semi-celebrities to promote themselves. Every day my inbox is full of emails from mediocre "artists" and such. It's not really MY space anymore. Seriously contemplating closing my account.
