Mount Up!

With your divots in place, it’s time to drill the holes in the case. Use a 3/16 bit this time and drill away! Don’t push too hard. Although a small amount of pressure is required, for the most part let the bit do the cutting. With your four holes done, you can actually mount the fan. Heck, you could have stopped at two holes and mounted the fan. However, this is the 8-hole method remember? I’m not stopping with just a few holes – that’s for those utilitarian types. I like to see a circle around my fans rather than just a square. It’s so much more….um…”Manta”.
To make the marks for the additional four holes, you will want to turn the fan 45 degrees and use it as a template again. Most quality squares allow you to rotate or set them to 45 degrees, so use it as an aide. Once positioned, it’s simply a matter repeating the same “mark and drill” dance.
