Datacenters were the first the use virtualization, years before this trend ever became mainstream. Despite what some studies or polls say, datacenters will always be understaffed because nobody is interested in working there, certainly not uni students. When you have to monitor dozens or a hundred LPARs, all on consoles that just display characters without a more attractive graphical interfase, work is not really fun.

One word: Virtualization.

Learn it. Adopt it. Love it.

I recently toured an AT&T Data Center in the Dallas area that has roughly 65,000 square feet of servers. They operate the entire building on 4 people. They called in electricians and other techs only when they have a melt down.

metropolis has you.
