Newegg Cans Counterfeit Core i7 Supplier
Popular online computer parts vendor Newegg this week gave one of its suppliers, IPEX, the boot. The reason, says Newegg, is that IPEX was the one who supplied the vendor with fake Core i7 chips.
"Initial information we received from our supplier, IPEX, stated that they had mistakenly shipped us 'demo units.' We have since come to discover that the CPUs were counterfeit and are terminating our relationship with this supplier," Newegg said in a statement.
Initial reports had pegged D&H Distributing as the culprit, but the supplier has since been cleared of any wrongdoing.
"Contrary to any speculation, D&H Distributing is not the vendor that supplied us with the Intel Core i7 920 CPUs in question," Newegg added.
Fake CPUs weren't terribly difficult to spot. There were several misspelled words on the retail packaging, including a sticker that spelled "socket" as "sochet," eWeek.com reports. In some cases, the user manual inside the box was blank.
As for customers who were affected, Newegg said it is sending out replacement chips.
See here for an unboxing video of one of the counterfeit chips.

I think Newegg is really doing the right thing here. Quality has to come first in every business, and by terminating this relationship they are making exactly that statement. The next time I find a Newegg promo code I will not hesitate to buy a product.

Thats the new FANLESS CERAMIC cooler and the new PINLESS CPU design from Intel, these are prototypes that were mistakenly sent out, lucky you if you got one, if you put it in, your rig will talk to you and then try and take over the world!

How does a company sell counterfeit CPUS?? Doesn't it take like billions of dollars to setup a plant to make these? Do they even work? You'd think that after making a CPU with billions of transistors, they could have managed to make cpu cooler that didn't look like a 4th grader made it.

The CPU is a fake. It is merely a mockup. It will actually fry your motherboard if you attempt to use it (yes, some people actually tried using them.)

Can suck it!!!
Out of all the thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of companies I have dealt with in my 35 years on this mudball, they CONSISTANTLY outperform when it comes to custumer satisafaction.
Way to go guys, YOU ROCK!!!

For those who think they have to stop buying from newegg because of trust issues, wow. I bet you have great relationships with other companies/people. If you considered the millions of products they've shipped over the years and their consistenly best-of-breed ratings from third party agencies, you'd see this as a tiny hiccup.
As for all the Intel chips...there's no point in pirating AMD chips...to cheap and too much bang for your buck...

If it was so easy to spot like as article says. the blame is still on them for being lazy. It doesn't take a alot to look at the box as your sending or putting them on self. It just means that they got lazy and didn't care what was sent to there customer. Just grab one on the shelf and send it. Not a trust worthy site anymore in my taste. They shouldn't had send any out once one customer complain, should had done a check on inventory.

It's easy to spot once you've opened the box.
Before that, you'd have nothing to go on besides a couple of typos in the packaging (and honestly, no company's going to have the resources to read the packaging on every single item they receive.

Blizzard Entertainment is a B rating, probably because so many people complain for stupid reasons without fully understanding the Terms of Service.

i couldn't find Blizzard when i last checked, jsut he company that absorbed them, Activision. the BBB is kind of tricky since companies can have the same names for different things. Theirs for example a Bioware that does Pc Security software. somehow i doubt thats the same company making Knight of the Old Republic
