Is the iPhone Headed to Verizon?
Recent rumblings have suggested that Apple's iPhone is headed to Verizon this summer, but is it really? Engadget on Monday said it confirmed that Apple and AT&T entered into a five-year exclusivity agreement back in 2007, which means AT&T is the only game in town until 2012, seemingly putting an end to the rumors saying otherwise. The only problem is, the rumors are getting louder.
Just yesterday CrunchGear uncovered that a media company called Landor Associates is putting together an advertising campaign for Verizon and Apple's upcoming iPhone 4G. The info comes by way of a tipster, so take this one at face value, but as far as CrunchGear is concerned, this "very nearly confirms a Verizon launch of the iPhone at the end of the summer."
While we're hesitant to fully believe an un-named tipster talking about an unconfirmed rumor, one thing we do know is that even if AT&T and Apple did sign a five year agreement in 2007, it's still possible the iPhone could end up elsewhere. Contracts have a way of being revised, after all, so we wouldn't be terribly shocked if the iPhone readlly did end up on Verizon.
Would you be interested in an iPhone if it was offered through Verizon? What mobile phone are you using now?

Who gives a hoot about Verizon? Im sick and tired of these huge companies (Apple, MS, and Google) completely IGNORING Sprint >_> Sprint is the largest network, has the most customers, the most money, and even has 4G for christs sake. They even said on their damn blog that they wanted Windows Mobile 7, and then MS goes and releases the Kin phone with windows mobile on Verizon only! This is just pathetic, the best phone will BY FAR be the Windows Phone 7, however, you can bet MS already has a stupid contract with Verizon for that phone too >_> Luckily, the HTC 4G Touch is coming out this summer, powered by Android, on Sprint. Im a huge Microsoft fan, but I think I just might go for a google product this time... I cant bear switiching networks, Sprint is by far the fastest, highest quality, and they also give out loads of free money for every contract (more money you get with other networks).

This article completely contradicts an article from last week. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/rumor_att_wrangles_iphone_exclusivity_extension

When the iPhone first came out it was revolutionary. For a long time nothing could compare, but that is changing. The Android based phones keep getting better and Windows Phone 7 is coming very soon. The number of good phones to choose from is growing all the time. Do many people really care anymore whether the iPhone becomes available on other networks?

News, yes. But interesting... meh... worth reading though... I have a BB Storm (so terrible) and I can't wait to switch to an Android phone when my upgrade time comes around in September. Hopefully, there will be a new Andriod phone... If not, Incredible is definitely my first choice. Never wanted an iPhone, never will.
My exploding trick: Any iPad/Phone/Mac haters get a lot of silly putty, then clog up the speakers on iPad and iPhone or vents (if they exist) on an iMac and wait for a few minutes... then....

I live in Minneapolis Minnesota, and over here, ATT is really good. Internet speeds are really fast and no dropped calls anywhere. ATT also has the best coverage in MN (most small towns in SE Minnesota have absolutely no coverage with Verizon). The only thing I'd consider going to Verizon is that I'm employed through Target and we get ~20% off for our Verizon service vs. ATT's ~15% or so.

I wouldn't use an iPhone if they gave it to me, as I'm sure I could find someone to buy it off me. Because of my new job, I'm using a BlackBerry, but in a couple months I'll be proving my geekdom by getting a Droid. Better the evil empire of marketing from Lucasfilm than the rotten Apple...

I think apple would love to get into other markets. Why? Well...it's main competitor right now, Google Android is in ALL the large markets at the moment. That's also another reason Apple questioned Androids numbers. I'm not an iPhone fan. I'm not saying it's not a good OS, but I'm just not into overpriced, locked down, etc. OS's. But there are a LOT of loyal apple fans out there. Also, older people like them because they are smartphone devices that are fairly simple to use. So when iPhone does make an appearance on Verizon...things will get interesting. If it is as soon as the rumored time...that's when Windows Phone 7 will also enter the game. Android, iPhone, WP7....finally, real competition = lower prices for the rest of us. ...well..except apple users. Lol, they never get a good deal.
...I replied to the wrong comment, but doesn't matter I guess.

I get what you're saying. For me, it's news. I am a phone dealer on the CDMA network. So I'm actually hoping the iPhone comes to Verizon. Would love to flash'em to Cricket and sell em. So yea...for me it really is news. But I must agree...it's not huge news.
