IBM Outlines 2010's Top Security Trends for Enterprise Customers
According to IBM's X-Force security research and response team's top security trends for 2010, enterprise customers are in for a history lesson. Or in other words, expect a resurgence of "old school" attacks next year. These include more prevalent large-scale worm attacks, along with Trojans remaining as popular as ever.
IBM also warned of more denial-of-service (DoS) attacks as organized cyber crime rings become more adept at "attack services." These same criminal organizations will also focus their efforts in the cloud in 2010.
"We have already seen the emergence of exploits as a service," X-Force researchers said. "In 2010 we will see criminals take to cloud computing to increase their efficiency and effectiveness."
On area IBM doesn't appear too concerned about in the immediate future includes smartphones. Even as these devices continue to grow in complexity and add more functionality, IBM doesn't expect many serious attacks to target handheld cellular phones. The reason? PCs are still a more valuable target.
