Kitchen Counter Tech: 25 Essential Culinary Gadgets Through the Ages

Back in the early 60's all the kids on the block had a hotdog cooker.

It consisted of 2 nails a pice of wood and a length of elecrital cord wirth a plug.

You beat the 2 nails throught the wood the right distance of a hot dog , wrapped the stripped ends of the cord around the nails.

You than placed the hot dog on the nails and plugged it in, in a short time you had a perfectly cooked dog. (make sure you pull the plug before you try to remove the dog)

Some kids even put a switch on it but that cost money most of the other items could be found in the basement or in the alley for free.

I must say, I really enjoyed this article too. It was a fascinating and fun look into the past. The people who whine about it not being "relevant" can go suck on an egg.

Where on earth is the microwave oven? As a student, it is possibly one of the most important kitchen appliances. :D

I really enjoyed this article! As a long-time fan of Max PC, I am delighted to see that a new site/magazine that will be devoted to all types of tech is coming. I am an avid watcher of Cool Tools, and reader of Family Handyman magazine among other things, so this new website and magazine will be added to my must read list for keeping up with all kinds of tech (I am a chick by the by).

And, as any true kitchen nerd/techie will tell you, a machine called a Vitamix should definitely be on the above list. I have no idea when it first came out, but I finally got enough money together after waiting for about 8 years to recently purchase this work-horse monster machine for my kitchen. It was like being able to build a brand new Sandy Bridge gaming rig, to me, to be able to add this to my kitchen.

Oh, and the toaster oven should be on the list too. A quality toaster oven can take over almost any task from a full sized oven with less use of heat, electricity and often time.

Keep going Maximum Tech/PC. New subscription to new mag on it's way!

It bakes anything you want. I bake freschetta pizza's mostly on it and i love them. I also bake Pizza rolls, French bread pizzas and even reheat things like Sub sandwiches.

Anything you lay on the pan, as long as it fits under the Heating Iron, the Pizzazz will bake the hell out of it lol.

I read this website for PC news, but I'd much rather see an article on this type of thing than I would on the latest smartphones. Maybe because I'm big into cooking, or maybe because it's not like you can find this type of article anywhere else (whereas smartphones you sure can).

Does the Presto Pizzazz Pizza Oven actually bake a pizza? or just reheat frozen ones?

Rice cookers are awesome. I don't make rice all that often, but I have one for when I do. You can also do lots of cooking hacks with it.

The Presto Pizzazz is the best and only Pizza baker around. I got 2 of these things just in case one breaks i got a back up.

I've used everything to bake a pizza at home and nothing does as good as the Pizzazz.

Apparently stating that "It looks (and is) ridiculous" about this great machine shows that you haven't used it yourself moron. Don't knock it until you have tried it.

The Presto Pizzazz is he mack daddy of pizza baking and i will use nothing else but the Pizzazz to bake my Pizza's.

I must say that I love PC´s, and I´m allways eager to read about the tech and gadgets thats related with it.

But I´m also the kind of guy that enjoys knowing about almost any kind of technologies,  and that is why MaximumPC has been one of my all time favorites sites. So please guys, keep covering different topics as You being doing.

Thanks for posting this article, and keep on the good work.

Please stop with these inane posts.  Not one thing listed has any relationship to computers or networks or the Internet or anything else allegedly "Maximum PC".  Content for the sake of content is nothing more than noise.

Double-commenting is sort of noisy too. :)

Anyhow, like I stated in a different comments thread today, when MaximumTech.com launches in 4-6 weeks, PC purists won't have to suffer any scary encounters with non-PC content. Stories like this one on kitchen gadgets, or Gordon's reviews of hardcore flashlights, and all our tablet and phone and HDTV coverage, will appear on MaximumTech.com. Almost all non-PC content will be vanquished from MaximumPC.com (I write "almost" because I'd prefer to avoid absolutes), and you'll hopefully enjoy this site more.

Oh, and here is where I originally explained MaximumTech's temporary integration in MaximumPC.com:

What do you think is more likely:

1.  I double posted because I am that type of guy.

2.  This comment system that already has performance and spam filtering issues posted twice.

Sorry for the double post, it wasn't my doing.
