Photo Awesome #7: A Look Behind the Lens
Hey, check these out! Look familiar?

Beautiful aren't they?
It's easy to take images like these for granted, because we here at Maximum PC want nothing less than the best looking product images for all of you to enjoy, and strive daily to deliver. But really, these intricate shots are the result of a lot of planning, light placements and an uber beast, 24 megapixel D3X.
So we thought for this Friday's Photo Awesome, we'd take you into our Future US photo studio to watch the pros at work. I present Associate Photographer Samantha Berg, and Contributing Photographer Patrick Kawahara, working tirelessly on one of our showcase shots for next months' issue. Enjoy!

Our light tables are awesome.

Samantha Berg, in action.

Luggin' those heavy lights around ain't easy.

All images are transmitted to a nearby computer, to gauge light and framing.

Our photographers' camera of choice? The uber-beast Nikon D3X, sporting 24 megapixels for razor sharp, cutting edge images.

Missing photographer: Mark Madeo, who happened to be out sick today. We wish him a speedy recovery.
There ya have it folks, a look inside our awesome photo lab. As always, please feed us some ideas for next week in the comments below--we do this for you! Have a great weekend!

This is one of the reasons why I pick up this magazine over others, nice clean photography. Having done product photography for the past couple of years I know it isnt the easiest thing to do, and its extremely time consuming but the results are definitely worth it! Its also nice to see some Nikon gear being used for a change too!

MaxPC has great pictures, I agree. Orginal and fresh, unlike DailyTech which doesn't make sense most of the time.
Great jop photo team!

I completely agree. Max PC has the best photos in it among all the computer tech magazines. It makes me like the magazine even more because it shows that they really put an effort into it.

Color me ignorant, but really, can't a PC do anything a Mac can do? It's MaximumPC, isn't it? Those are all PC parts inside that Mac, right? Am I to believe there's magical editting software written for a Mac that's NOT written for a PC? Is there something magical about the way a the Mac OS works that makes it fundamentally better than a PC? Or is it just artistic snobbery? Being married to an artist (who I force to use a PC), I'm genuinely curious. Am I being cruel to my artist wife?

yeah we PC users are fond of our windows and linux setups, but when it comes to professional photo, video, and audio editing Macs really are the best tool for the job.

Whatever they pay Samantha and Mark, they should raise it. These photographers make MaximumPC look beyond good. Excellent photography! It's pure Art. Yeah, with the Capital A.

What are they using to support the items in the pictures? Looks like aluminum honeycomb core to me. Very cool if it is.

Thanks Max.PC for the behind the scenes look. To me it's like buying a DVD with the behind the scenes and directors commentary features, I like knowing that backround stuff. I would have never known how thoughtfully you shot your photos, and as a hard copy subscriber, will appreciate it even more. :-)

I herd from the MPC NBS PC: that one guy there has a iMac book and tried to change the ram out for new ram with higher capasity. Then apple came and ruined the day by only allowing certain companys ram to work.

A D3x!!! OMG Photographer Pron!! I do love my D700 though.
So many pro-photographers prefer Apple for various reasons. I have an iPhone but that is as far as I go. Anyone that has been to something like Photoshop World conventions know it's an Apple user fan-boy party.

Once again, great pics and I am definitely loving the series and the idea behind it, but one thing I noticed, is it just me or was photo awesome 5 skipped?

For those of us whose hobbies are computers AND photography, this is cool. Take your self-important attitude elsewhere :)

Perhaps one of your hobbies should be learning how to read:
"give us ideas for next weeks pics"... and some social graces. :)
