MaximumTech.Com Launches! Double Your Daily Tech Dosage At Our New Sister Site
MaximumPC.com has given birth to an audacious new offspring. It's called MaximumTech.com, and it aims to deliver kick-ass coverage of smartphones, tablets, home entertainment gear, and sundry personal technology products you can't even imagine -- all in the minimum B.S. style you know and love, and possibly even fear. Here's a brief FAQ.
What Will MaximumTech.com Cover?
MaximumTech.com covers all personal technology gear, but focuses on the consumer electronics that nerds care about most – smartphones, tablets, home entertainment hardware, and all manner of handheld gadgets. You’ll also find articles on the world’s most high-tech tools, watches, sunglasses, fitness equipment, home appliances, automotive products, and other lifestyle gear imbued with cutting-edge features and engineering.

What you won’t find, however, are stories about technology that bears no direct relevance to the basic human experience. We’re talking about space and aeronautics technology, military tech, massive industrial projects, and all the vaporware that we’ll never see in our lifetimes. PopSci, Wired, and all the pure science websites cover that material quite well (so we don’t need to).
Likewise, MaximumTech.com will not attempt to “out-newsify” Gizmodo and Engadget. Yes, we’ll cover breaking news stories, and when we do, we’ll end each article with a short blurb explaining “Maximum Tech’s take” on whatever’s just been reported. But the real focus of MaximumTech.com is to deliver what we’ll call “post-news” coverage:
- Deep-dive feature stories explaining new technology trends -- ending confusion on how things work and what to buy.
- Uncompromising and concise reviews of personal tech gear – all based on extended, hands-on field testing.
- Articles that reveal the very most cutting-edge, interesting, curious and quirky aspects of personal technology – content you can really sink your nerd teeth into.
MaximumPC.com will continue to be your number one source of hardcore PC coverage. In fact, because smartphone, tablet and (gasp!) Apple coverage will now be handled by MaximumTech.com, MaximumPC.com will be able to devote more time and resources to cover all technology from the exterior of your PC case moving inward.
Who's Working on Maximum Tech?
Maximum PC editorial director Jon Phillips is currently the content lead for MaximumTech.com. Jon helped launch boot magazine, which was later renamed Maximum PC, and was the editor-in-chief of Maximum PC from 1999 to 2003. Michael Brown (who was also a boot staffer!) is the Maximum Tech reviews editor. Markkus Rovito has just come onboard to serve as Maximum Tech features editor. The content for MaximumTech.com is developed side-by-side the content for MaximumPC.com, and editors for both websites work together in story development, product testing, etc. Likewise, all of MaximumPC.com news bloggers and freelance contributors have been invited to write for MaximumTech.com as well.
How You Can Help Make MaximumTech.com a Success
First, please link on over to the new site, check out the content, and comment away! You can also email all your feedback directly to editor@maximumtech.com. In short order, we will also be posting an article on MaximumTech.com requesting feedback on the site, and you can enter your more general site comments there.
Second, in the coming weeks and months, we’ll be promoting a lot of contests to build our Facebook and Twitter followers. The first giveaway will be conducted the week of May 9, so check MaximumTech.com next week for details. In the meantime, please follow us on Twitter via @MaximumTech, and “like” our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/MaximumTechMag.
Third, please don’t forget that Maximum Tech is also a print magazine. We just finished our third issue, which can be found at newsstands or purchased directly from our online store after May 18, 2011.

All of the editors in the Maximum Family deeply appreciate your daily visits, regular comments, great story ideas, constructive feedback, and all-around enthusiasm for our websites, magazines, and technology in general. We could not do what we do without you, and for this we offer our most heartfelt thanks. So… thanks!

You should include a link at the new site to the MaximumPC forums! Just a suggestion.
Good luck and I'll be checking the site out, too!

It works for me, though I do see the feed defaults to the incorrect name of maximum pc. What browser/version are you in? Or are you working in a non-browser RSS reader? I will file a bug ticket. :)

hmmm I'm using Google reader to bring everything into one location but maximumtech.com cannot be found (as an rss feed)
I can search for just maximumtech and I see a lot of other feeds (Like Jon's twitter feed) but nothing for the site as a whole. I was looking for somethign similar to what maxpc has:

I don't really have time to checkout both sites, so I don't mind a little crossover. Some of the tech news that has been on here recently has been interesting.
Anyone else have problems staying logged in since this upgrade? I haven't been able to in Opera for a few days.

I just picked up the last issue you did and can't wait for the next one. I used to check your MaximumTech from the link on MaxmiumPC. But most of the time the contest was similar. So MaxTech was kinda lame. I hope you can keep the content different on both sites. I spend hours usually reading alot of your articles. I hope to see more in depth information on MaxTech from anything geekie outside of pc information. I like MaxPC for content on whats happening and trends.
Been a mag subscriber for 11yrs. Since i picked a copy in high school in 1999 and been hooked since.

hey, Tony. The content on maximumPC and maximumTech dot-coms will be about 95 unique to each site. Each site will "promote" the other site's content, but not run the same material. The print magazines, however, will have more crossover. I think you'll find that Maximum PC print will be running a few pages of Maximum Tech content in every print issue. Anyhow, thanks for your 11+ years of support! We owe you. :)

I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that will love this. For me, I don't care about any of this stuff and will continue to read MaximumPC.

It's great but now you guys just need to get a site going that puts the articles from both sites into one. Some people love both and flowing through them all in one site would be really neat. It can already be done considering it's from the same organization, same people and everything. Just a thought.

I like having all the content in one place. I don't really wanna try to read two websites. Will logins from max pc transfer at least?

Logins have already transferred from one site to the other! And we hear you on the "all on one site" comment. It's in the roadmap, but still a long way's off. For now, it would be great if folks could just visit each site. :)

I remember a time when the 486 dx2 was king and a mag. called CD ROM TODAY. I loved this mag because i had no internet, and relied on it for apps I had no other way to obtain I.E. winamp, winzip, rosenthal uninstall and many others. Then one day shortly after intel released the pentium, my beloved mag morphed into Boot mag. Now non of the apps [ or most of them ] would no longer work with my 486. So now I had to build a new rig at great expence just to use all the new apps and games on Boots disk. I hated Boot for this and stopped buying the mag. Then Boot morphed into MAXPC, an awsome mag and the website also, but lately the site seems to be overrun by smart phones and maxipads Please get back to the PC and let Maxtech look at phones and pads
PS get rid of facebook its crap and does not help my rig go any faster
