It's Official: Facebook Hits Half a Billion Members
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has a message for all the social networking haters out there: Facebook is doing just fine without your support, thank you very much. He didn't actually say that, nor did he need to - the numbers speak for themselves.
"As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them," Zuckerberg wrote in a blog post. "This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook around the world. Now a lot more people have the opportunity to stay connected with the people they care about."
To celebrate the occasion, Zuckerberg and company launched a new app called "Facebook Stories" so you can tell the other half billion members what brought you into the social networking scene and what you use Facebook for.
Not hokey enough for you? Not to worry, the Facebook team also assembled a photo album filled with their messages of thanks. Maybe at the one billion members mark the company will spring for a celebratory video.

I wouldn't call myself a social network hater so much as a social network disdainer. I'm happy that they are doing great. People's obsession with sharing the uninteresting minutae of their lives is curious to me, but it's their lives to share. They can keep the facebooks, myspaces, and twitters. I'm happy not posting on my "wall" every time I take a piss.

That's hardly anything to write home about. They have had a little over 500millionpeople try the damned thing. How's that a big deal? Active members are all that counts this is completely pointless and is puffery and PR spin and nothing else. That's like someone saying "oh but i have had 1b page views of my site(but how many this month?)." It's all puffery and this is no feat at all. big deal, 500m people signed up for it. Those who aren't active shouldn't count and this is puffery and will always be puffery way to join in on their PR spam maximum pc. Also using recaptcha has and will make me never sign in nor post another comment after this one. I refuse to work for google.
