G.Skill Launches New Phoenix EVO SSD

Like most memory makers, G.Skill also dabbles in solid state drives, which is proving to be a more lucrative business than the struggling DRAM market. G.Skill's latest SSD is the just released Phoneix EVO, a SATA II based drive built around the SandForce SF-1222 controller. It also sports "high quality 2xnm NAND flash chips," which G.Skill claims were strictly selected from key suppliers to guarantee top reliability and stability.

The Phoenix EVO comes rated at up to 280MB/s read and up to 270MB/s write speeds, which is about on par with other higher performing SATA II based SSDs. G.Skill also readily admits that it isn't quite as fast as its 3xnm Phoenix Po SSD, which boasts read and write speeds up to 285MB/s and 275MB/s, respectively.

"Although 2nm based Phoenix EVO requires more over-provisioning space and less performance compared with G.Skill's current 3xnm based Phoenix Pro drive, it certainly is a great choice for cost effectiveness and delivers a positive impact on affordability for the the customer," G.Skill says.

The Phoenix EVO is only available in 115GB capacity. No word yet on price or availability, though as a point of reference, the Phoenix Pro streets for around $240 in 120GB form.
