This is friggin hilarious! And totally fitting for something as meaningless as a fight over the word "Scrolls." Plus, I'm betting the community sides with Notch and starts a tourney for the best Quake 3 players to represent Mojang.

To all the idiots who (seriously) want everything to be decided by virtual duel, you need to think about what would happen once somebody sufficiently good at every game took over the world. An antisocial nerd with a video game addiction as the almighty ruler? I shudder at the thought.

This is absolutely the correct way to handle these things!

This....this just made my day.  I have to give props to Notch for this kickass idea.

All of the world's conflicts should be solved this way. Nobody dies (for real) and everyone can respawn to rage some more. ther would not be as much violence in the streets, and the worst people can do then is publicly share their gamertag  on a shirt or something in another country.

real-time strategy games could have like country-size maps, and have random skirmishes for players to wage battle on.

This... is THUNDERDOME!

I love this! My hat is off to you sir!

Okay I think this would be great for both parties. The community would respond well to this and best of all this is fun! Come on we are gamers after all.

I see that using the 'Game Solution' to settle legal desputes and to reign in politics has already been mentioned...but I'd like to offer that a dozen round frag fest would've ended the recent 'Debt Ceiling' debates (and, well, ANY R vs D issue in Washington DC) with time to spare to help some of the hurting peeps of our country.

I say the next Presidental 'race' is done AS a race; use a trifecta of FPS and/or RTS games and we can get the country back to doing business in like a weekend of virtural 'debates' on the game field! :)

Just a thought...comments?

The World would be so much easier if debates were won my video game matches. Then, lawyers wouldn't have to exist and therefor, the world would be a better place :D dirty bastards.

Notch has a great sense of humor. Wonderful satirical message.

Marthian

yes, he has a clever sense of humor... But seriously, he is serious about this.

avatar

TerribleToaster

If he wasn't there would be no point to this satire.

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

You can't use the word scrolls in a title any more? WTF?

avatar

Gezzer

All they need to do is set up a few websites to stream it live and charge a buck or two for people to watch. I know I'd pay to see it. :)

How about a real life game of quake with all the lawyers being the players. If anyone should get fragged, it's them.

avatar

tornato7

I like this new legal system. At least it's better than our old one.

avatar

fellowleo

Are you nuts? Just how will the lawyers get rich from this? If the lawyers don't get a cut, nothing gets done!

avatar

Marthian

well they should have thought about this BEFORE they became lawyers for a game company.

If only all lawsuits could be decided this way.
