eh, the initial preorder bonus is disappointing. I'll be waiting for something more tangible in-game than a steel case

Haven't bought a UBI game since they went bat-sh*t crazy with their DRM. So not in the least bit interested in this one either....

All I have to say is: we're hunting deer this year!

I thought Assassin's Creed was too much like a typical console game, but it was still pretty fun, and the setting was really cool. I just didn't like it enough to bother with the sequels, or play for more than a few hours. I'd be willing to give this game a try, though. The setting looks very interesting, and I'm sure improvements have been made since the original game.

Holeee crap, this is a surprise, especially since Ass-assins Creed was thought to have fallen in line with Modern Warfare and other gray-brown games.

Will there be vampires to fight? /reference

Well, it's fallen in line insofar as Ubisoft is using twin studios to pump out annual releases and has stated they can continue this process for a long time. In other words, they'll keep doing the Assassin's Creed 2, 2.1, 2.2, 3, 3.1, 3.2, etc pattern for a long time, with as little changed as is necessary to call it new and no conclusion to the Desmond story arc unless doing so will not impair their ability to continue sequel production.
.
It's a shame, too. The core gameplay of AC is good if rather openly combat heavy for a "works in the shadows" group of assassins and it would be great if they brought about some real line-of-sight stealth, realistic management of notoriety (ganking an isolated guard shouldn't leave witnesses!), and some sense that you're actually managing/part of a secret underground organization. Engaging in open combat with a dozen foes and leaving piles of corpses in the streets with plenty of civilian witnesses just isn't very assassiny, you know?
.
Sadly, all of that would likely alienate what Ubisoft considers their core fanbase (and they're probably right), so open combat and lack of real stealth in gameplay or theme will remain.

I agree with you gameplay-wise. Historically speaking, however, the real life group of assassins did not mind doing things out in the open; in fact, it was a sign to all the others how badass they were and not caring. so leaving bodies in the street? the way of the Assassin.
Gameplay should incorporate a better stealth element. but then we'd hear about how it was ripping off Splinter Cell mechanics and thus being unoriginal

Yeah, watching videos, the ai in AC looks less like Crysis and more like Goldeneye N64. They have a great potential in that giant wide open environment, but no, they make the ai as stupid as my little sister.

Along these lines, I am extremely disappointed with the stealth ai in Deus Ex: HR.

I am eager to see how it will play out. I'm a big AC fan, have played all the main ones. I just hope they finally give more clarity, since now everything is gods and aliens. It's weird.
