MPC PSA: Demo of PC-Exclusive Hard Reset Now Available
The majority of you are PC gamers born and bred, so Hard Reset is a game that absolutely needs to be blowing your radar to tiny little pieces and then laser-blasting those pieces to a fine powder for good measure. It's an old-school “What the hell's cover? Oh well, it'd probably just stop me from killing everything that moves” shooter to its very core, but done up in gorgeous cyberpunk style. On top of that, it heralds from a developer comprised primarily of folks who previously worked on Painkiller and The Witcher. Oh, and the studio's CEO won't stop saying wonderful things like “There are many games published on PCs that are just ports from consoles, and we all know that today the power of a current-gen console is similar to a four- to five-year-old PC... All those modern shooters are about terrorists – after playing all those Call Of Duty games, I sometimes feel like I will open my fridge and a terrorist will pop-out to shoot me. Boring!” So yes, here's the Steam link. Now make with the downloading.

It's very intriguing, I'll give it that. I'm fed up with cover systems and bogus, deus ex machina styled, regenerating health systems. I for one am totally on board with the Serious Sam 3 tagline of "No Cover-- All Man", and things like this game which embody that sentiment. Duke Nukem only being able to take one hit in DNF before having to run away like a wuss and hide to prevent an unmanly demise still irks me. "Bullet Sponge" isn't necessarily a bad thing.
What I'm not on-board with is Steam. I embrace the brave new digital distribution world, but only from GOG. It's dislike that stems not from just the standard DRM playability issues and principles, but from my affiliated dislike of Half Life 2. I didn't care for it as a game (though I played the 360 Orange Box version), and Ep3 is a running gamer joke, a euphemism for "never". Part of me feels like Valve has abandoned its game-making roots for its DRM cash cow. I can't bring myself to support that. ;)
I heard about the creators' stance on quick saves "ruining the suspense" of gameplay, but having to play till a save point to stop is pretty brutal as it doesn't jibe with real life. It also reeks of the console; I remember playing Metroid Prime on the gamecube and having to allocate a large portion of my "gaming time" to backtracking to a save point :( I want to save at my caprice, and if I want to abuse the function with hard battles, than such should be my prerogative.

the demo seems kind of good, but i notice you can't crouch and there's no quick save in this game which should be standard in any pc games, now talk about pc exclusive.

Played the demo...absolutely gorgeous game..love the artwork...don't know if I'll get it at launch (two other games I'm getting are coming out next Tues) but I'd like to get it eventually.

I'm probably the biggest "cyberpunk" fan around, but it's hardly a genre that's ignored in videogames. As sick as I am of modern military shooters.
I like the sound of this though. I'm still not used to this cover system that I've found in the last few shooters I've played, and would prefer it not exist at all.
Looking forward to giving it a try.

Looks pretty cool - and I like the PC exclusive part. Kinda reminds me of a newer version of Unreal Tournament 3. Thanks for the tip!
