Metro: Last Light Goes Official, Gets First Trailer
Close. So close. Metro 2033 missed its grab at greatness by mere millimeters, and it pretty much broke our hearts. Thankfully, THQ doesn't plan on leaving this diamond-in-the-rough where it lies. And – much as we'd have liked to have seen Metro 2034, if only for confused cries of “There's already been 2,033 of them?” – developer 4A Games has settled on the ominous “Metro: Last Light.” Details and trailer after the break!
Interestingly, the new game operates under the assumption that you shot and slaughtered your way to Metro 2033's “bad” ending, so don't expect sunshine, rainbows, or a delightful Dark One dance number this time around. In happier news, however, the development team is hoping Last Light will be a “poster child” for the most cutting-edge graphics cards available – much like its predecessor. The objective here, then, isn't to reinvent the wheel. Instead, Last Light's aiming to have the polish Metro 2033 so badly needed and then some.
“We believe that Metro 2033 was a flawed masterpiece. It was a beautiful, original game that didn’t get the marketing support it needed,” said THQ core games head Danny Bilson.
“We won’t make that mistake with Metro: Last Light. This game improves on the original in every way – it will have more polish, deeper and more sophisticated gameplay, and satisfyingly visceral combat, without losing what our fans loved about the original.”
Which is all marketing-speak, sure, but at least it sounds like THQ's on the right track. At any rate, check out the surprisingly musical trailer below, and judge for yourself based on a grand total of about 3.6784 seconds of actual moving footage.

Metro 2033 was one of the hidden gems of gaming. I'd go as far to say that Metro 2033 is the most underrated, overlooked game since Beyond Good and Evil back in 2003 I believe. I'm looking forward to last light, and I hope they do what they say they're going to do; polish and improve upon what Metro 2033 started. I don't want to see Last Light get dumbed down like so many sequels have been lately (*cough* Dragon Age 2 *cough, cough*).

The whole time I was watching that trailer all I could think was wow. I must say that was bad ass. I just got Metro 2033 after the price droped on steam and loved it. Still happy I waited for the price to drop though.
And to Joji, this game is nothing like the CoD searies. Pick it up since its only 20 bucks on steam. As long as you have a computer that can handel the eye candy you wont be disappointed.

If they aren't like the Cod Series, then I'll buy the game. However, if they are like the COD series, then screw them. ^^

This is a wicked cool game! I actually liked the first. I hope the retail copy of this one does not require Steam like the last one did. Either way, the first one was great, so I am definitely looking forward to the next one.

Holly I noticed in a lot of your posts you are bashing steam. Why do you dislike it so much?

I am not bashing Steam. Just don't like buying a retail copy and being forced to use Steam, when it is a retail copy. That is not to say I don't have a Steam account, which I do. Steam is great for organizing, but I got Steam because I was forced to. No store I go to gives refunds on games. When I purchased Metro 2033, I did not think I had to start an account with Steam. It did not stop me from enjoying the game, but man, why do I need to log into a client to play my own game? So I really do hope that this next game will not force retail buyers to sign up with Steam. I will also do careful research to make sure the same mistake doesn't happen to me again. Lucky for me, there's Wikipedia.

I am a PC gamer because I like playing on an open platform... Otherwise, I'd rather go to consoles if the platform is going to be closed like consoles. At some point, DRM becomes too strong to the point that it affects the desirability of the game itself.

Gotcha, I understand your point. I do agree it is stupid to have to log a retail copy into steam but at least it isn't starforce. :P
