Losing Faith: Mirror's Edge 2 Probably Canceled
We mostly loved Mirror's Edge, and – given the chance to iron out the kinks (read: tell the combat to take a long, particularly unpleasant hike) – we were certain DICE would knock a sequel right out of the park. Unfortunately, it looks like the Mirror's Edge franchise didn't look before it leaped, and now it's down and out for good.
"Patrick [Soderlund - EA driving and shooting game boss] acknowledges that Mirror's Edge didn't match up to their expectations regarding sales, and that has stopped the sequel that has been in development," said a translated report from a Swedish site called Press 2 Play.
“EA was shown a prototype, but declined... The project has been stopped - involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror's Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity."
With Battlefield 3 officially entering the home stretch, it's not surprising that DICE would lavish its breadwinner with attention instead of rolling the dice on a largely unproven (and previously flawed) franchise. It's still hugely disappointing, however, seeing as Mirror's Edge was just a few tweaks away from greatness. But then, we suppose you could also say it was a guitar peripheral and seven billion sequels away from profitability and, well, we all saw how that turned out. Perhaps this is for the best.

a running tally of games that do not meet the "churn out yearly sequal" business model of EA should be kept. EA will release flawed and buggy games that is not an issue, just not ones that show innovation or may not have yearly sequals.

What a shame. Such an original, fun and beautiful game. The Time trials were so addictives!

Looks like the entire industry that has thrived all along on innovation is turning its back on it. They'll get what they deserve for this eventually.

There's enough love for this game, or what this game could have been with a little work, that a sequel will eventually happen. But it's too different and to risky to be something EA is going to want to really encourage right now. Maybe some other developer/publisher wants to make a clone and go after that market? :)

I refuse to believe this... i really wanted a sequal to this game. I liked it so much. It was just unique to me.

I found the game addictive and fun to play once I learned the controls. Playing it on a high-end machine blew my mind. Sad to hear this.
