PC Gaming would have been the next big thing. One of the bigget problems I saw that has slowed down pc gaming from exploding is the cost of the games. PC games were intended to be atleast 10$ cheaper than console games. Unfortunately due to companies like Treyarch and Activition with all their COD's. Prices for pc games are now 60$ for pc also!!!! WTF!!!

Unless prices are cut for both consoles and pc gaming will slowly die off in the middle class.

I love PC gaming.. I have a recent, middle-of-the-road gaming rig that has changed forms many times over the years and that I still love dearly and put through its paces on a nightly basis (gaming doesn't get much better than a PC @ 1080p on a 58" plasma). I have a 360 and have played a few titles on both PC and Xbox just for comparison sake, and let me tell you, the PC reigns king in graphics quality (Case in point: Mass Effect).

Having said that, I can't help but take issue with your article in the way that there haven't been any good big-budget blockbusters in a while released just for PC or that have been optimized for PC. Not that haven't been crippled with DRM or that we've had to wait so long for that I've literally lost interest in. Of course, this will be a matter of opinion.. I'm not really into games that developers like to start advertising 5 years before they come out just to line their pockets with as much cash as possible, or games that devs clearly developed for consoles and only as an afterthought released a PC port (poor graphics/performance, and controls that just don't feel right). I will agree with you, indie, social and MMO games are doing better than ever on PC.. but you can't honestly say that we've seen a good, high production value written exclusively for PC in a while.

Maybe I'm just an old bitter man.. but when I was in my late teens, my idea of gaming was earth-shattering graphics, a fantastic story, and a game that you just can't put down. Now in my old age (22) I can't honestly say that I've played a game like that in a long time. Yeah, there have been games that are entertaining and that are fun to play, with passable to good graphics, but none that I've been blown away by. I'm not into gaming to waste time, I want to enjoy what I'm playing, and with the prices and DRM, a game has to be outstanding to make the cut.. these mediocre games I've been seeing the past few years have not.

Gaming on the PC might not be dead, but it's damn close to it for me.

"Gaming on the PC might not be dead, but it's damn close to it for me."

You could say that about gaming as a hole, since 99.99% of games made today come out on multiple platforms.

But I do agree; gaming is in the whole right now the last amazing game I played was the Original Halo on xbox back when it first came out before that it was half-life. (HL2 was good to, just not MIND blowing)

I knew the PC platform was way too huge to ignore... Now these assholes, who claimed PC gaming was a dying hobby, are flocking back. Times are a changing...

When he talks about the Asian PC model, he's talking about paying by the minute.

"If you look at the way people play in Asia, PC is the model," he said. "I think that free to play model is coming to the west in a big way."

Sure looks like it huh?

Yup, it's gonna be the biggest platform, that's why they have been slowly killing off pc titles and releasing them only on consoles.

In 2007, EA produced the last PC version of Madden NFL Football, Madden 2008. So it just strikes me as amusing, in 2011, four years later, they are backtracking on PC games. I'll just keep playing my old vesion until the DVD breaks, thank you very much. I won't wish them ill, but I won't wish EA well either.
