Battlefield 3 Info-Drop: Tehran, Paris, and New York Featured, Spotting Returns, Frostbite 2 Engine Trailer
You're starved for Battlefield 3 information. We get that. DICE cryptically whispered the game's name and then dove back into the shadows, so it's only natural that you'd want answers. Unfortunately, after a weekend on the streets attempting to hunt down the slippery developer, we were informed that it's based in Sweden, rendering our entire search (and unwarranted beating of a few tight-lipped citizens) futile. So then we spent a few minutes on the Internet and found this stuff.
First up, UK retailer GAME revealed that Tehran, Paris, and New York will all be prominently featured in the game. Meanwhile, lead gameplay designer Alan Kertz took to Twitter to douse a few burning questions. Among other things, he said that spotting's making the jump from Bad Company 2, although it's far from finalized. “Spotted enemies could have a bomb dropped on them by an orbital space cannon for all I’ve decided right now,” he tweeted.
The much-loved ability to go prone is, of course, slithering down the comeback trail as well, but Kertz and co. have clipped its wings, so no more mid-air “dolphin-diving.” He also explained that bullet physics are taking a few cues from Bad Company 2, but “it's a much deeper system.”
So, when do we get to see it all in action? Er, not yet. Check back in a few weeks. In the meantime, though, this video of Battlefield 3's engine ought to bring some light into your life. And then remove it. And then bring it back again. Yes, it's a lighting demo with negative 64 players and just as many bullets, but it's still pretty darn impressive. Click through the link to salivate at the idea of massive battles that span days and nights. Come on, DICE, with that engine, it's just begging to happen.

Hi,
Do you have any update about support for TrackIR5 head-tracking? I have seen there's a huge online petition for that as well. Here's my request (on knees begging!) :-)

What ever happened to BF1943 for the PC? I've been waiting for that for a while. Thankfully I never pre ordered it because I would probably have lost my money on that one.
Hopefully this lives up to everyones' expectations. I have 1942, BF2, BF2142, BFBC2 all for the PC. Hell, I even played BF Heroes for a while. I intend to get BF3 on my PC when it comes out.

They officially pulled the plug on 1943 for the PC as well as onslaught mode for Bad Co 2. That's fine by me. Send every available man, woman, and child working at DICE into the BF3 development corner so it's awesome.
As long as we're on the subject, BF play4free is just terrible. I tried to play the beta several times and I know its only a beta but what a piece of crap. Based on what I saw there's no way the finished product is going to be any good unless the beta is very very rough and not even remotely close to the finished product. Ooops, as a beta tested I'm not supposed to talk about it. Go ahead and take me off the list.

You just reminded me that I actually preordered BF1943! I bought it from the EA direct download store as adding when I got Mass Effect 2. They had some deal where you got $n off some total, so I think I actually got ME2 for less if I added BF1943. Now if EA decides to officially cancel BF1943 and cancel my preorder, I wonder if I'll be getting a bill from EA demanding the full price for ME2 :D

We know some of you eagerly have been awaiting Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught on PC. I’m sad to say that these two titles are now officially cancelled. Instead, our talented teams will focus on delivering the greatest possible gaming experience in our next behemoth release. We’re confident this will lead to an even better experience in Battlefield 3, not only on PC, but on all platforms.
For an idea of what that means, watch this space for some exciting news I think you’ll like.
