Battlefield 3 Beta Incoming, Double-Helping of Footage Eases Wait
As a PC gamer, you ache to play Battlefield 3. This series is your heritage. It's in your blood. Fortunately, there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel: September. That's when the Battlefield 3 beta's starting, according to an email sent out to owners of Medal of Honor: Limited Edition. Unfortunately, this is the part where the wait – small and easily defeated by Father Time's unfaltering tick-tocking though it may be – becomes excruciating. However, you need not concern yourself with cryogenic sleep or any other, shall we say, slightly drastic options; we have images for you. Images that move! Catch two multiplayer videos – one of which is a heaping helping of leaked alpha footage – after the break.

Finally some multiplayer video. Not sure what version they would call this they played but noticed some big frame lag spikes in the game and wasn't to sure if I did see some hit box issues with the guy using the recon class. Besides the fact that the guy we were watching seemed like a noob playing it looks hopeful. I hope there NOT gonna do a freaking squad voip this time since it failed in the PC version. We need a full team VOIP to communicate better or at least like they did in BF 1942 use a GRID map so that way you can call out say tank at G5. Since BF 1942 didn't have any type of VOIP that was the only way to say in game what section they were at using a grid location. Now yes i do know that you can spot targets but it's those ones u didn't see or can't spot cause there to far but you can see with your scope..
One other thing since it looks like there some night maps, I'm surprised they didn't bring back the nightvision from the Exp. pack from BF 2. This is suppose to be realism or as close as you can, right?

its the city, what do you expect?
I believe they also say they'd have a mix of both close quarter combat and open field.

Oh my god, that lighting effect with the rocket in the beginning of the video was beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes.
Based on the rest of the video, this is probably some of the nicest lighting I've seen in a video game.

Did you see the Samaritan Demo of the New Unreal Engine? granted its not a game, but probably will be used in future games.

While also very cool, the two should not be compared. The Unreal clip is a graphical demo probably designed exactly for showing of that specific scene. It doesn't mean the new games will end up looking like that all the time. It's not at all the same thing to the lighting in Battlefield 3 ( which is completely interactive, with dynamic terrain/buildings/trees and lights(!) ). I much prefer the look of BF3's lighting model: it seems to be aiming for, not realism, but beaty; love it.

It's funny, looking at the leaked footage it looks almost identical to Homefront, only shinier. Still can't wait though. Hope I get into the beta =D

Homefront!? You kidding me!? Homefront uses the Unreal 3.0 engine. This game uses the new Frostbite2.0 engine. For now, launch both Homefront and BC2 on 2 seperate computers. Compare, and realize that BC2 is far more superior than Homefront in terms of graphics and gameplay. ^^

I was talking gameplay only. Of coarse BF3 looks better it's newer and on a brand new engine. As for being superior in gameplay, well both you and I certainly can't make that call, neither of us have played BF3. I'm sure it will be a good game but Homefront really filled my BF needs a while back already.
