I never mind reading an article on how Apple fails. I dislike them more and more everday.  I'll never ever buy an Apple product and I wish they would go bankrupt.

But Maximum PC IS a tech magazine, and since this shitty phone is tech, they're gonna cover it.  The iPod is tech too, should they not cover it just because its Apple? I still think its funny that Jobs is telling people that their new iPhone doesn't get reception because "You're holding it wrong." What a freakin' jackass.

But then I went back to a keyboard phone. My Blackberry on Verizon has honestly not droped a call. Well, there was one a few weeks ago but when I called him back he complained about his iphone AT&T service always droping calls. :-)

As for the Maximum P C strife going on, I do not mind reading about Apple stuff sometimes but come on guys, it is a phone. Enough already.

Quick points here. Maximum PC covers technology. They never claimed to cover just the PC. I like the fact that I can get a PC users perspective instead of some Apple fanboy site where its all good news regarding Apple. Like someone in this comment thread said, a true geek is a technology enthusiast, not just a PC enthusiast. Im on PC, I've owned an iphone. I love techology and I want sites like this one giving me tech news and opinion not just covering one side of it.

Wow guys, I didn't mean to start a Mac-vs-PC argument, I was just stating an observation. I currently OWN an iPhone 3G, and I hate it, but that's not the point. I was pointing out that there's way too many iPhone4 articles and not enough Android, WebOS, and WP7 articles.

Read the website title this isn't geek life or mac world or maximumuselessshit It's maximumpc I want to read news about pc's meaning windows and linux. When 1/3 of the articles are about something stupid to do with the mac I get irritated because that isn't what the purpose of this site is.

avatar

big_montana

Sorry buddy, but PC stands for Personal Computer, and alst I checked a Mac is a Personal Computer. You do not want to read about iPhones or anything Mac than skip those articles, no is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read them. But the rest of us tech geeks like to read about everything technoloy related under the sun, espcially if you work in IT. It is called keeping an open mind and being well rounded.

avatar

jlh304

I hate to break it to you but apple does make products that work on windows.  So covering the iphone isn't a very large stretch.  If you don't want to read about apple then don't read the article and keep scrolling down.  Besides your argument doesn't make sense when you include linux.  Maximumpc is really a windows slanted publication anyway.  But hell macs run a flavor of unix, and Linux-based system is a modular Unix-like operating system..  So should they not cover android then (it's not windows or linux)?  I think they are just trying to give you some general tech news and let you know what is going on, which is what the site is about.  Maybe your upset because everyone is covering it, but that would be like complaining about cnn covering a story because you already heard about it on msnbc or fox news.

Lots of window pc users buy iphones, I have a moto droid, but I don't mind hearing about the new iphone fail.  So you want to read about PCs, what about pc accesorries (like routers, wifi, phones/mp3 players, ect)?  I would think you want to read about a pc accesorry which the iphone 4 is.

" So should they not cover android then (it's not windows or linux)?"

Android is a UI that runs on Linux. So yes, Android IS Linux.

avatar

jlh304

Andriod uses a modified version of the Linux kernal (Monolithic).  But Goolge released most of the code for Andriod under the Apache License.  That and the Android operating system consists of 12 million lines of code including 3 million lines of XML, 2.8 million lines of C (which is what Linux is written in), 2.1 million lines of Java, and some amount of C++ from third parties.  I would not call Andriod just a UI that runs on Linux.  Yes it uses Linux, but Linux is Unix-like, so does that just make Linux a UI that runs on Unix?  No I don't think so.  These are free standing programs and while releated in some ways are their own OS not just a UI.

When "Minimum BS" starts showing up more than "Maximum PC" then there is an inherent flaw in the name, slogan, and flow of the news within this magazine and it's website. Luckily, the magazine is still much more open source based than the website even though they tainted a page with an iPad 3g review. At least they mentioned it was because that was the only slate to be reviewed at the moment.

I don't think the guy you are arguing with hates articles on routers, mp3 players and phones. I like the cutting edge stuff reviewed here, and have built , or ordered, many a system based on their findings.

In response to all of the above, yes, I am very sick of hearing about the iPhone 4, and I understand the argument about having all of the features on Apple products on a PC mag. I agree that it's up to the reader as to whether or not to actually read an article, but how are the good folks at MaxPC going to know that we don't like it unless we voice our opinions?

avatar

With millions of people buying iPhones by the truckload, and Apple making it clear that they are commited to the AT&T network, why hasn't AT&T bothered to improve their network? I live in eastern NC and am part of the 3% of America, according to AT&T's own commercial, that has no AT&T coverage at all. And all over the web people have complained about their service since the iPhone craze started. If sells are this good, and potentially could be even better, why not spend the money to fix their network? Verizon gets so-so sevice where I live so I am with USCellular, who is supposed to get their first Android powered phones in July. I am considering an upgrade. I just wish I had the choice to try an iPhone, but so long as it's tethered to AT&T, it's a non-option. Maybe Android will be great and I won't miss it.

Would AT&T even still be a contender without the iPhone? Or would the whole nation be with Verizon, or the smaller companies?

It's amazing how many people leave comments just to complain about the article.

Magical Idea: Don't read the article if you don't care about the content.

Of all the people in the USA, it seems angry nerds are by far the most annoying. Are you guys really that unhappy with your lives?

avatar

TechJunkie

Are you a vet? Because if not I am extremely offended at your remark because I am a vet....in the USA...and a PC user....

If the article wasn't up for debate, then they wouldn't leave the means to comment......hooooah....

First off, a nerd is someone who doesn't care about PC v Mac.  They use what works and the minutiae of a detail isn't the least important.

I used to slam on Macs until I bought one and realized how functional it is.  It's way more useful and isn't as high maintenance as any Windows boxes I've ever owned.

PC geeks (not nerds), slam on the iPhone and Apple because for all the crap they give Apple for "last gen" hardware, they don't have an OS that can compete.  Nor do they have a phone that set the bar like the iPhone did.  Needless to say; all the features that Droid has, the iPhone already had since 2G.  So yeah, these guys are really that unhappy with their lives.

avatar

TechJunkie

How can you say that? The 2G still was lacking most of what a "dumb phone" could do. Copy/paste and video recording and, um, voice dialing come to mind right off the bat. So your comparison of  "any" droid phone to a 2G iphone is ludicrous at best...even laughable. Hell, the iterd now still can't be really customized and is lacking "true mutitasking". So if anyone set the "bar", it would be that candy bar called....barnone.

I'm a PC geek..if you wanna call it that, but I slam crapple and SJ because of the way they treat thier consumers. Charge you out the ass now for last gen hardware then make an upgrade to current hardware making all the accessories you bought usless with the new one, then they say oh....itunes won't work with it either, forcing you into spending more money and them fritters fall for it. Just like now with the iphone 4 and it reception problems....either hold it SJ's way or buy a case at $30 just to make it work correctly.

I also had a mac...an imac years ago. I learned then when I wanted to upgrade my ram, I had to take out a second mortgage on the house just to do so. I don't think it's as bad now, but still, I like to be able to hit my local best buy, compusa, etc, and pop in just about anything I want without the permission of the doorknob they call SJ. And no, a mac is no more funtional than a PC, actually it's less functional because there's hardly any upgrade options that's approved by the almighty. Now go rub your apple products in non-appropriate ways and see if they have any juice....you know you want too.

I have to PooP!

Danthrax66

This is a website for pc geeks it isn't for nerds in general it is for people that care about the pc, not some useless piece of shit that looks cool.

So, your saying you bought your Nike's and purple sheet and now are just waiting for the comet?

I give the iphone a score of -5. Out the door, it has problems but the apple fritters don't seem to care cause SJ says it's the best and then they bow to him like coward goats sucking on an utter. His response to that was utter shit. I mean come on, if your brand new car can't get into 2nd gear and was told buy the maker to "Just shift it a different way", there would be a backlash of unhappy drivers that would start a massive recall. But SJ's fritters bow to that rotten apple as if he was ripe and full of juice.

Had this had happened to any other carrier, handset maker, or manufacturer other than apple, they would be ridiculed up one side and down the other stiffeling sales with horrible reviews. Apple fritters need to wake up and smell the bananas because they aren't the shit. They just like to think they are cause SJ says so.

Why is it that a prominent PC magazine has at least 3 articles about an Apple product on their homepage?

Is anybody else sick of hearing about the iPhone4?

How about some news on the Droid X?

Why don't you just not read the article then? Are you to much of an idiot?

It's "too much of an idiot" not "to much of an idiot"

Your argument's go over better with proper grammar and spelling, especially if you are calling someone out.

No, I didn't read the article, just the title. And I noticed that there were 3 iPhone 4 articles in a row. That's ridiculous for a PC website.
