Are you a PC know-it-all or a newb? It's time to find out!
Within the span of a generation, one new technology radically changed society, propelling many folks into the realm of the well-connected and well-educated. It was expensive, especially at first, but economies of scale soon brought this technological advance into the homes of millions instead of just an elite few. That’s right: We’re talking about the book.
The Internet has largely replaced the book as a tool for democratizing access to information, but one thing remains true: knowledge is power. And you’d better have some significant knowledge at your disposal if you hope to fare well on the 11th annual Geek Quiz. We’ve collected 55 questions from the easy to the mind-burning to test your knowledge of technology more advanced than deadtreeware. If you’ve been zoned out, it’s OK, but you’d better hit the books. Go ahead. We’ll wait. The Geek Quiz will still be here, mercilessly taunting you until you give it a go.

0-14 CORRECT:
Either you need to invest in Computing for Dummies, or you’re a dog who has found your master’s copy of Maximum PC on the floor. In which case, we greet you. Woof. Woof.
15-30 CORRECT:
Your knowledge of PC tech and history might not be the stuff of legend, but you still know more than 90 percent of your peers. The dumb 90 percent.
31-45 CORRECT:
Truly you are wise in the ways of the Force. We can’t help but feel that if you went outside a little less often, you’d have done better on this quiz.
46-55 CORRECT:
You’ve absorbed everything we’ve been teaching you and more. Heck, you could probably write next year’s Geek Quiz by yourself. Which is good, because we need a vacation.

30 out of 55 --- misssed the next group by 1 !?!!
So I'm grounding myself for a year till the next year's quiz when I hope to do better -)
Also a heads up -- the login for the quiz at the end of it is not the same as the MaxPC one - It's an entirely different one for the quiz thing itself. Drove me nuts for a good while.

How do I find my score? The login for the quiz went away. This is a really crappy quiz.
Don't waste your time if you want to be competitive and get a score.

Completed Geek Quiz 2011 and it said I had to logon to check my score and 'compare'. Minimized browser. Went to get logon/password. Maximised browser: logon screen disappeared. Ain't gonna take the quiz again. EVER!!!!!

The quiz seems to no longer be working. Which really stinks because I was looking forward to finding out how well I did this year. Hopefully it works soon so I can take it.

3700 out of 5500. Had a few too many "Of course!" moments right after I answered. Good job on the book titles btw!

I got a 26. All the questions about old hardware I pretty much got wrong, bc I wasn't a geek then!!

But! I took the quiz while on my phone and still got the ^ character question correct without sitting infront of a keyboard. /flex!

Didn't get the opensource question. Both firefox and redhat linux are open source but when I picked RH I got marked wrong. Hell even android is opensource. So why do we have to pick one?

Too many questions about games that I don,t play. A game is a game, and I know lots of people who play games and don,t know dick shit about computers or technology. I know lots of people who know lots about computers and technology but don,t know dick shit about games. Game knowlege is not geeky,they are called gamers.

Update: Yeah the "start" button was missing so switched IE 9. haha
Even then it fails to get past the first question so looks like the quiz is broken a bit.

Tested and working in Firefox, Chrome, and IE9. You do need to have JavaScript enabled, however.

Java-script is enabled.
Still can NOT get past the first question in any browser or computer I have tried. Tried on Windows 7 and on Ubuntu.
Oh well!

Seriously, guys, what the hell? I still don't have the September issue. Dream Machine 2011 is old news, and now the Geek Quiz is out. Please stop doing this. Why are we subscribing to the magazine if it's all on the website weeks in advance?

I gave up at around question 20...as soon as it started asking questions about what skin was used in whatever the game was called, I knew right then that I was helpless =P.
Oh well. I pass most other geek quizzes...I only care what's relevant to MSCITP and the like.

Me too :/ Every year my score goes down, since I've been moving around so much cause of school I don't have my MaxPC subscription any more which hurts my score a lot :(
