I wonder how thinkpads compare - they use them in space you know.

Thank-you for the article, it's interesting.

Panasonic is one of the greatest name brands ever.  Toughbooks are cool.

It appears that Jonathan Green is a civilian.  It's interesting that we're counting on civilians to maintain secrecy.  With the background information in your article, it wouldn't be too hard to get the rest of the information that you left out.

Just as JESUS said "Whoever is not for me, IS against me.", I'd say, whoever isn't on our side, IS on their side.  Civilians, wow.

Thought I'd also mention another powerful communication system made for emergencies:  The Internet.

;O)

Sorry friend, but I believe the term you are looking for is "Government Service".  I'm a Vet, you may be too for all I know, but think a little before knocking "Civilians".  Civilians, be it Contractor or Government Service, help our Government and Armed Forces go 'round.

Anyway, loved this article, way cool.

Sorry, terminology thing.  I'm a Vet and a Civilian.  Government Service is civilian, I believe.  I'm certainly not 'knocking' civilians, if anything I'm glorifying them, by saying that we 'depend' on them.  I think what I'm trying to 'knock', is how dependent we are on our citizenry in our war on terror.  I guess it's the uncomfortable feeling that someone that's that important, isn't under the UCMJ.  Basically seeing the concept that if our neighbors turn against us, we're screwed, because we're depending on a 'neighbor' here, not some General.  Don't take me too seriously!

First off, I want to say this provides a great deal of information about PSAP's but I feel like this is a bit one sided to the dispathers point of view. I wish this article had talked more about the technology that the Police officers/EMT's/Firefighters use when reciving a call from dispatch. If you want to learn more about what happens on the responder side I would recomend getting a EMT textbook which will run you around 80$'s or join your local emergency services station as a voulenter.

Interesting layman's run-down of PSAP technology.

Thanks for posting it!

(I'm a supervisor at an American PSAP.)
