Old School Monday: Lab-tastic!
We've shown you what our lab currently looks like (Photo Awesome #2), but since this is Old School Monday we thought perhaps a quick shout out to the boot lab of yesterday would make for a nice contrast. Gordon gives a shout out to our much-missed pal, Andy Sanchez (pictured):
New readers who aren’t familiar with Editor Emeritus Andrew “Handy Andy” Sanchez should know that he was the most bad-ass editor who ever walked the halls of boot magazine and Maximum PC. He was the Guns of Navarone, a mushroom-cloud laying editor when it came to crappy products. He unfortunately passed away, way before his time, while working on the April 1999 issue of Maximum PC. In this Old School Monday, we see Handy Andy where he belonged, where he thrived – in the bootLab in late 1997 benchmarking, overclocking and likely, kicking ass and taking names. Rest in peace brother, the world misses you.

We are well aware of the problem, and are working toward fixes that go beyond the current model of community policing. One of the problems is the "mark as spam" button is so small, and people don't even know it's there, or exactly how it works. But we're on it, John. For the time being we all need to be aggressive in marking spam as spam. Thanks for your concern, your support, and your email.

Subject: Spam Attacks
Folks,
Is anything being done about the extensive spam that is showing up on your web page at maximumpc.com ? It is really starting to make the whole experience of coming to the site very unpleasant. Please let us, your readers and fellow tech-geeks, know if you are aware of the problem and you are intending to do something about it.
Respectfully,
SGT John Garn

At 300% zoom, I see no "mark as spam" button. I guess it really is small. Maybe they should try the male enhancement product above your comment on said "mark as spam" button.

This spam is out of control. Other sites allow comments with no captchas and have no trouble with spam at all, so surely there is a way to stop these guys...

What is very interesting is that they take the time create a login and do the captcha, but they don't try to sell anything of interest to any fools who happen to come here. Is there anyone browsing this (or any) tech site, no matter how gullible, even remotely interested in fashion?

you find a way to tell them that, they are bots who SOMEHOW get past captcha, and if they can get past it, who is it stopping? why are we doing this? and why does it give me character with dots and curvy lines on top!!!
