Wait... you can upgrade Lenovo laptops? I have a T400. What other things other than the CPU can I upgrade?

The T400 almost certainly has a socketable socket. Looks like you can probably run up to a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo T9600. You can probably upgrade any of the wireless, HDD/SSD and RAM of course.

A fair question for Mike:
Are you really packing that MBP because of Adobe InDesign and to "know your opposition?" The reason I ask is that the cynic in me wonders if you really maybe like the MBP, don't subscribe to some imaginary "PC vs Macintosh War," and just feel bullied into saying this by overgrown dorks who hate people and think they're stupid based on product choices. You know: "you could only possibly like that because it's shiny and you imagine you look cool using it at Starbucks." ;)

Yes, that's really why I use a Mac Book Pro. I've used InDesign on a PC before, but making sure I have all the same fonts that the design team is using is a major PITA. But in all honesty, my work computer is just a tool, and I don't really care what OS it's running as long as I get the results I need. As a journalist, on the other hand, it's also good to know what else is happening in the market. Apple is gaining market share right now. I can either ignore that trend or try to understand what's driving it.

Gordon gets my vote... he is the only one I've seen with a mouse (plus one other person in the comments so far). I almost never leave without some kind of mouse... :p

My main rucksack is like 25lbs with two laptops, a mess of chargers, a dslr with zoom lens, and 85% of the yard sale that Gordon is packing (like a ThinkGeek.com monster took a dump on the table :-P).
But when the alien drips acid and you gotta drop all that in a hurry, I grab my iPhone4 with Tonido & LogMeIn, and my 1TB encrypted USB harddrive (off-site fileserver backup).
With those two devices, I can run 95% of my daily life, and keep 65,000 photos (20 years) safe if the complex gets nuked from orbit.

In picture #7 with Alex, I was wondering why there is a gun on the floor. Are you waiting for the Mac's to invade?

I'm pretty close to Gordon's bag, and as I work past airline security, mine also has to be TSA improved.
It's a lot of stuff, but the nice thing is that I can live out of it. I'm taking a vacation next week and all I need to do is pack some clothes and toiletries in another bag and I'm set.
I also like Amber's magazine choices.
Actually really enjoyed this article, it must have been fun to do. Good work all.

"Gordon's Jawa swap meet." gave me a good laugh.
I also liked what appears to be an airsoft gun laying on the floor in the background in one of the pictures.
