I don't like Facebook at all. I use it only for marketing purposes. Also, I have a G* account and I do not use it a lot...

Personally, I like the consistency of the Google UI over Facebook's as well (which isn't bad in most respects), but it's the constant flip-flopping of Facebook's 'privacy policy' and settings are reallying getting to be annoying and they bury things too deep if you want to try and fix it. Atleast the big G is more upfront about things and makes said options easier to locate as well.

I actually was invited to join but new, old or in between the best new social network in the world is still getting to be Meh. Something new that would be exciting? not a Facebook or a Myspace or a LinkedIn or a .... whatever with a different interface.

No dis on any of you that want to try it however. Enjoy.

Why do you guys spend so much time on something that isn't even available to the majority of your readers yet?

If you're asking that question I'm not sure MaximumPC is the best information source for you. You'd probably be more comfortable looking up "computers" in the card catalog of your local library, I'm sure they have an encyclopedia that is guaranteed not to touch on anything too cutting edge for you. ;-)

I've been at this for a while... and been reading MPC since the boot days (though I don't think I'm that old...), and I still stand by my question. An article detailing how to perform a procedure in a product that is still in testing is a waste of time. The author's time would have been better spent on something that is currently available to the reader base. It makes sense to do an informative piece on the features that will be in Google+ (which they've done before IIRC), but a procedure that could well change before the product is fully released... any Project Manager would cringe.

If you're that old that you're already starting to deperately cling to the idea that you're more 'cutting edge' than someone else, go take a Viagra and have a midlife crisis.

I must disagree with you here. I tried the "invite all of your FB friends" method and gained 40+ friends in an hour or so...it turns out they have access thanks to this article and now Google+ is available to the masses. Just invite your friends like stated above in the article. I love how Google+ has more than Facebook and can still integrate Facebook; that is....until Facebook is wiped out due to Google's awesome internet domination.

Well, to be fair we covered the heck outta Sandy Bridge before it was available and we've done a bunch of stuff on Windows 8 and Battlefield 3 which are also unavailable - and we've covered concept items that may never be available. We're here to give you the best and most complete coverage on new tech developments and releases, even if that means covering things that not everyone has access to yet.

That's the nice thing about the internet...articles don't go away in a hurry. When you do have access to G+ and you're thinking "hmm how do I get all of my facebook contacts over here?", this article will be here waiting. Besides, how many millions of people are on G+ already? ;)

Ghok

Yeah, but you're not putting up How To guides for Battlefield 3 or Windows 8. You've had a few for G+.

I'm not really complaining, it's just kind of a useless article for me until I get my invite, and I suspect a lot of readers feel the same way.

Personally, I'm sick of Facebook myself. Too much blatant advertising in news feeds (thanks to 'apps'), the f-ed up chat/messaging system is really annoying, I'm tired of 'friends' posting spam on my wall because someone was too stupid to use a decent password, the list goes on.

Definitely in 100% agreement with you there.

OK. so that is how but Why? Just what I need one more social network. I am in fact dropping some of them, not adding more.

It is because FaceBook is getting old, and Google+ is brand new. In the world of technology, we have to embrace the new, or we will get stuck in the past. Like those who refuse to upgrade out of Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6... Which are both great, but old like FaceBook. Hence the people are progressing in that photo... It is all a good thing.

Okay, totally agreed with you on the embrace-the-new thing. But, IE6 and great does not mix.

Believe me when I say this. I am totally with you on this. I think I.E. is by far anything but great. I just don't know how it remains dominant. My browser of choice is actually FireFox. Something must make ie6 great, we just don't know what.

Uh, what?

You got to read the whole thing to understand it.

These Google+ how to articles are fine and all, but I question the timing of them as most people do not have access to Google+ as it is still limited to a select few.

There's actually a facebook page devoted to people who want google+ invites. If you really want an invite, it's easy enough to get.
