Great to see you reviewing Real Desktop, I've been thinking about trying it out, but I was unsure. Keep up the awesome freeware lists!

As most of the responses here have indicated these solutions aren't really that neccessary in the context that most people have used them. The boreing desktop metaphore works great runing on my boreing desktop PC when setting on top of my boring desktop...

However, Google aquired Bump for a reason and my bet is that this will be great on a multi-touch android powered tablet computer. Combine this OS front end with a vocabulary of multi-touch gestures and you might just make a tablet that is not just an ultalight laptop w/o a keyboard.

 There has only really been evolutionary change in computing for the last couple decades, nothing really new. But revolutionary change in how humans interact with dataspace might still happen, and a new workspace metaphore would be a big part of such a change.

I'll stick with my good ol' 2D Rocketdock, thanks.

I concur with other posters - the 3D'ness of it is cool but is lacking in functionality.

 The standard boring Windows desktop is functional; I can get to my files or applications quickly and efficiently.

...mashing the Windows Key and Tab at the same time.  Nice.  I didn't know about that one.

holy freakin icons batman!!

 @the t3desktop

makes my head hurt when I see that many icons on a desktop.

and as for my input, I agree with the others here. They all look cool and fun, but they grow old very fast because most of them lack functionality,,for me

Every time I read about these 3D desktops I really want to like them, but all the ones I've tried just get in the way.  I feel like they're solutions looking for a problem to solve.  They are pleasant diversions, but then I have to turn them off so I can get back to work :-)  It seems like the best desktop metaphors are the ones that don't distract and get out of the way as quickly as possible.  Still, T3Desk looks interesting - I may have to try it LOL.

I prefer using 1 giant resolution screen and not dealing with multi desktop applications :]

Real Desktop looks the best and more realistic

I'm sad to see ShereSite was not included in this list (originally SphereXP). It is now free. Turns your desktop into a 3D Globe (sphere).
