I think asymmetric CPU dies are the future. I'm most intrigued by Tegra 3. I've long since LOVED the idea behind Cell(used in the PS3)

Imagine a multicore CPU with;

a "simple" in order execution core somewhat like Intel's "Atom" to handle light loads and idle processes.

4 "Bulldozer" type main "cores" that control 8 SPU's(like in Cell) per module.

All leading to a SIMD graphics array.

Basically take the best parts of Tegra3, Cell and Trinity and combine them.....

It would be awesome in theory but everything coded today wouldn't be able to take advantage of such a awesome design.

What will really happen instead?

MOAR CORES!

EVUN MOARS CLOCKSPEED!!!

ultrabooks and netbooks need the "big.LITTLE" technology, and need it yesterday.

Ultrabooks are refinements, in almost all respects, over the traditional laptop designs that have proven themselves for many, many years. Why is it that you think they need a massive ARM-inspired redesign?
