Comic-Con 08: Four Days, Four Hundred Cosplay Photos. Welcome to the Ultimate Geek Gallery.
It was a herculean task. Team Maximum PC at this year’s Comic-Con International consisted of only two people, and there was no way we could attend every packed panel at the event. So instead of bringing you movie and television panel reports you’ve probably already read on SlashFilm or AintitCoolNews, we wanted to be your eyes on the show floor. And that meant showing you what stood out most in the 500,000sq ft space of the main exhibit hall: the cosplayers. Our quest to document as many unabashed costumed geeks as we could find yielding 400 photographs of comic-book, anime, fantasy, science fiction, and film characters. We saw dozens of jokers and batmen, numerous video game-inspired outfits, and even steampunk-era Ghostbusters. The impressive level of creativity and enthusiasm that we saw in these cosplayers was an awesome reminder of why we love geek culture. We hope you can appreciate it as well.

Bonus challenge: Can you name all of the characters?

I'm thinking she is not the Little Mermain (she's showing to much and she's not using seashell for a bra. I believe that she is Poison Ivy.

My guess is The Little Mermaid. She's pictured on page 11 with the other Disney Princesses.

There, but for the grace of God, go I. I would like to thank MaximumPC for showing my wife that, while I am a geek (comics, Magic: the Gathering, D&D, etc., etc.), I'm not alone.
Also, is the guy in the red Cobra outfit on page 1 Kevin Spacey?
I also would like to see an index. I recognize a good number, but there are some I just can't tell.
Seriously, it looks like a great deal of fun.

Wow. Someone actually went as Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files. At least I think that's what the kid in the duster, fedora and staff was going for.

Cobra Commander (page 1) and Indiana Jones (Page 10)... same dude. Wife picked that one out. Guess that's what happens when you have two perfectly lame costumes in the closet, and only one event a year to bust them out for.

Don't you mean Capt. Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly sans browncoat? The suspenders and lack of a fedora makes it pretty cut and dry - no offense mind you.

Are there any big comic conventions here on the east coast? I would love to go to this one but traveling to the west coast is a little too much money.

Um....well.......wow! This truly runs the gamut. From totally authentic to totally hideous. Some of these people, should have stayed home, others, I wish I could see more of, if ya know what I mean. You can tell the poeple who have some artistic talent, a few with tons of it, and others who should be ashamed. I think a few of them dressed up just to win the most ridiculously costumed award. Now, I'm not one to usually pick on fat people, but a few standouts for the most ridiculous award, The fat Darth Vader, The guy whom I can only assume was trying to be Hooty from G-Force in flip flops, showing off his Moobs, the skinny chick who actually made an ok Plastic Man, until you see her tiny chest poking out, the fat Gambit from X-Men, the chubby Leeloo from the Fith Element, and the fat Speed racer....I could go on ALL day. Some standout's who could actually win for an excellent costume, the The Crow on page 2, Isaac Clarke from Dead Space on page 5, Trap Jaw from He-Man on page 6, Karl Ruprecht Kroenen from Hellboy on page 9, and The Dark Night Joker, also on page 9. Unfortunately there probably won't be any awards for hot Cosplay chicks, thankfully though, there are enough of them to save the show.

1. Women really do make the world a better place, everyday, in every way.
2. The pictures I really want to see would be the WTF?? expressions on the faces of the "normal" customers at the Starbucks around the corner, as they walk in and see these guys.
3. I couldn't figure out why you posted a pic of Captain America, from behind. Then I realized. It must be a San Francisco thing...
4. I move that from here on, all swimsuit portions of beauty competitions be replaced with Catwoman costume ...
5. What's this got to do with either MaximumPC or minimum BS?? You did not seriously get paid for this excursion?
Thanks for the pics. :)

We send an editor or two down every year to man our booth and hang out with readers who stop by. This year, Norm and Nathan went, and instead of just lounging all day at the booth, they decided to get a couple of stories out of it.
The basic idea is that even if you can't make it to Comic-Con, we can give you a little taste of the show.

Hmm, guess I struck a nerve.
I was being a bit sarcastic, about the Comic-Con coverage. I guess there's not anything similar or better going on ---- I'd sure rather see this stuff than have another Star Trek discussion. I guess it's also related to the thing, where companies putting out the new hardware and games don't want too much publicized "before it's ready."
It's another perk of the jobs you guys do I guess... (Please don't tell me Norman got paid to stand in line for the iPhone.) Kinda makes your gig sound even better than the dude PCGamer gave a Falcon PC, who tests PS3 games at work.
Sounds like a contest, for next year, to me. "Go to Comic-Con with editor _______, takes pics of costumes for publication on the web-site..."
I was more concerned about the Captain America pic, though. (I must have guessed the correct answer for that one.)
Thanks for putting a stop to the pics of "things being licked." (I do seem to be picking on Norman, don't I?)
I've never been to a Comic-Con. If it's anything like the "Star Wars Weekends" they have at Disney MGM, this stuff really does have to be seen, to be believed.
Thanks again.

Snake with the cardboard box, Cap'n Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones, the Spartan, and Leelo Dallas (the one with the multipass!). Can you eventually post an index for those that couldn't identify all of them?

as someone who follows the con circuit in california, i hate to say it but the majority of 'hot' women you speak of are comiccon booth-babe specialty types and are paid to be there and are usually actresses or models hired for the weekend. the actual cosplayers who are hot are usually not very big geeks, but rather they love the attention they get in a small community of (predominantly "normal-looking") people so they show up at every opportunity anyway.
...but yes. (some of) the women pictured are pretty hot.
