rainmeter sucks bigtime, it has issues with my system. I tried it everytime I saw a review of appraisal like this and I uninstalled it instantly. It's lousy to see not work, it crashes a lot and heck.. I use Fence, rocket dock and gadgets and theme the system, I get better than stock display. Rainmeter is definitely not worth your time if you've windows 7. Windows 7 gives much for usability than this SOB rainmeter

thanx for reminding me how much i hate rainmeter ....well it isn't that i hate it so much per se
just once a year or so i see something like this download it...get irritated (and fail to rtfm) then decide it is more trouble than it is worth and uninstall it.
so that is done for 2011 thanx.

i stumble upon it from time t time as well and it took me a few "screw it" tries, but now i like it a lot and when you get the right combination of UIs, it makes alot of tedious tasks more convenient and less time consuming...
hard to find decent ui packages though...

Since most of the links are broken, what's the Deviant Art one called? I can't find it on the website.

Does anyone know what dock is being used at the bottom of picture 20? Is it easily customizable or a do-it-yourself Rainmeter job?
Here's one I did for my musician girlfriend as a Christmas present (now fiancee). It took sooo long to get exactly right. It's addicting, too. Like, stay up till 3 AM addicting.

I used to be involved with the alternative desktop shell scene back in the day. I used to be hardcore into using LiteStep and BB4Win. With LiteStep I could emulate any kind of desktop that I desired.

I prefer an empty desktop. Mine is a plain blue backdrop, the Win7 taskbar, and various icons arranged in groups with Stardock's "Fences Pro". With a double-click on any empty space of my desktop, Fences will hide all my icons, and I can double click again to show them.

Use to spend quite a bit of time with Rainmeter but nowadays I prefer the simplicity of Win7 Desktop slides with my favorite Hi-Res images (many of them from Bing). I use "Fences Pro" to keep organized & maintain a "clean" Desktop. I also couldn't live without "7stack" to organize my programs shortcuts on my taskbar. Now if only I could get my messy Office to look like my clean desktop. LOL

I've always wanted to do that, even gotten as far as DLing rainmeter, but then remember that I never really look at my desktop. I always have windows open, so I don't really see the point to overly tricking out the desktop.

Remember when Microsoft tried this with Windows 98? That was some cool shit back then.
I'd be happy with a clock and temperature highly visible on my desktop, though I suppose I'd come up with all manner of cool ideas if I thought much about it. Guess I'm so used to having nothing with XP that I no longer dream of more.
