Hackers went on a rampage this week, infecting more than 20,000 web pages with malicious code written to install password-stealing software on PCs of unsuspecting visitors. Among those infected, security vendor Trend Micro took several pages offline after learning they'd been hit. It remains unclear how the attackers are managing to breach so many pages, but according to InfoWorld, the infected pages seem to use Microsoft's Active Server Page (ASP) technology.
In a press release issued yesterday, the Cyberathlete Professional League ceased operations effective immediately and cancelled all events scheduled for 2008, ending a ten year run promoting professional competitive gaming. The CPL came to the surprise decision based on "the current fragmentation of the sport, a crowded field of competing leagues, and the current economic climate." What's a gamer to do this summer?
We've heard rumblings that Microsoft may be gearing up Windows 7 for a late 2009 release, but according to Softpedia, Vista's successor is still on target for 2010. It's been known for some time that Windows 7 would ship three years after Vista's debut, but it's never been clear if that referred to the business launch in 2006, or general public release in 2007. In an email to Softpedia, an MS spokesperson indicated the latter, saying Windows 7 "is scoped to three years from Windows Vista Consumer GA."
What's a company to do with hundreds of millions of dollars burning in a whole in investor's pockets? Buy a social networking site, of course! And that's just what AOL intends to do. Amid falling subscription sales, America OnLine agreed to buy Bebo, the third largest U.S. social networking site, for a cool $850 million in hopes of riding the online advertising wave. The purchase price is 47 percent more than what News Corp. paid for MySpace, but could prove a wise investment if advertising for social networking sites continues to climb.
Forget about chocolate, diamonds, flowers, and other common expenditures associated with Valentine's Day; it was videogame sales that saw a boost in the month of February. Videogame hardware and software sales shot up 34 percent last month to hit $1.33 billion, despite February normally being a slow month for game publishers. Citing un-named motherboard makers, DigiTimes says Intel is prepping their first quad-core CPU for notebooks in third quarter 2008. The Core 2 Extreme QX9300 will run $1,038 per thousand-unit trays. Built upon a 45nm manufacturing process, the new chip will zip along at 2.53GHz on a 1066MHz frontside bus, carry 12MB L2 cache, and have a maximum TDP of 45W.

LOL.. And they are MaxPC's biggest advertisers. Perhaps they could be hacked enough so that we won't be punished with their ads every other page we goto here.
